I am sorry tallie that is very new. What maybe new is that they actually going to hand out jail time, when they were perfectly justified to throw your ass into jail according to the immigration act. The law hasn't changed, only their interpretation. So his remark is not ignorant, at least no more than yours, because you had no clue you could get jailtime for overstaying while tunrning up at the airport with the cash in your hand.
