Khun_Kong
Another thing....it's a volunteer army. A draft might focus people's attention more. Oh, but there is a draft. Except it took the form of a gigantic addition to our fiscal deficit, which was created under the Obama administration when he used his army of time machines to go back in time and snatch responsibility for the mess created by BushCo. Oh, he is one tricky Muslim, he is. It certainly seems that many of the military's traditional responsibilities have been farmed out to private contractors, many (most) with some government connections, at, what 10X the cost? Didn't troops used to do things like building work, security, cooking/cleaning, secretarial work, transport, etc. I don't really know much about the specifics, but it seems the words "private contractors" came up more and more in the news during the Bushian reign of terror. Still not a bad deal, as it freed up some 4000 other brave young men and women to get KILLED OVER FUCK ALL! Your dollar$ were thoroughly conscripted by the warmongers. Flashermac
It's supposed to have been Reagan who privatised the mess halls, largely doing away with military cooks. I remember when Desert Shield began and GIs were asking if the contractors would go to Saudi and Iraq to cook for them. (Instead they got MREs.)
