Flashermac
Uh, yeah ... Pennsylvania was one of the LAST states to abolish slavery. Vermont also threatened to join the British if the US wouldn't recognize it as a separate state. The land actually belonged to New York which had won a court decision over the ownership; the Green Mountain boys held New Hampshire deeds which were more or less illegal. Meanwhile, life in the USA ... Seven people arraigned on riot, assault charges for violent fight at Sikh temple in Queens Seven people were arraigned on riot and assault charges Monday for their roles in a vicious turf battle at a Sikh temple in Queens. [color:red]Assailants wielding cricket bats and swords disrupted prayer services Sunday morning at the Baba Makhan Shah Lubana Sikh Center in Richmond Hill, police and witnesses said. "I'm going to kill you," defendant Harinder Singh, 47, screamed before punching Joginder Singh in the face, says a criminal complaint filed in Queens Supreme Court. Gurnam Singh, 47, rushed into the temple swinging a stick and lunging at others while religious ceremonies were underway, the complaint says. A policeman managed to wrest away the stick before the suspect flailed his arms wildly to prevent being handcuffed, police say. At least one policeman was injured. Several of the defendants were charged with disrupting a religious service. Temple President Jarnail Singh said the melee was caused by a dissident group of followers who don't want to see membership rolls opened at the 101st Ave. temple. "We tried to open membership, and a group didn't want it," he said yesterday. "They want to fight it." The dispute is at the center of a pending lawsuit in Queens Supreme Court. The temple president said he hopes the warring factions will let a judge mete out justice instead of resorting to violence. "What the court decides I will believe," he said. "It's his decision." Bangkoktraveler
[color:red]Is the USA going to default on her loans? Being the Republicans want Obama to fail, there is a possibility this will happen.
Hugh_Hoy
Obama is a moderate Republican. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/the-shocking-truth-about-the-birthplace-of-obamas-policies/2011/04/15/AF6qINpE_blog.html I don't think you would find a Republican that would agree with you; that is, that Obama is a Republican. Call him a Marxist, and you would definitely get some agreement. Or call him what I call him: arrogant, charismatic, unprepared for the job, socialist/Marxist, BAD for the country. HH Obama continued the bailout of the auto industry and Wall Street that GWB got in motion. Obama also agreed to renew GWB's tax cuts. I would say he was acting very much like a Republican. Bangkoktraveler
The big issue will the Republican allow the debt limit to raise. Considering many Republicans want Obama to fail I guess the answer might be the USA might default on her loans. If the USA defaults, everybody will be up the 'creek without a paddle". cavanami
The US debt has been downgraded to "negative", which is not good for the average Joe in the USA. Prices will go up on everything. More countries to shy away from buying US Treasury Bonds, etc, etc. My silver coins are up 50%, thank you very much and I expect them to reach much higher!!! Bangkoktraveler
The Republicans should have a party over Obama's failure. While they are having the party they might as well throw in another roll of toilet paper.

ghostdog
As for the debt ceiling, my prediction is there will be games played, great theatre, but at the last minute they will vote to raise it. Hopefully Obama won't fold like a lawn chair and give away Medicare.
Hugh_Hoy
I agree that the debt ceiling will be raised. I don't think Barry will cave in on Medicare, but that won't matter when he's out of office in about 20 months. I see Medicare as we know it (and Medicaid) restructured. Those in their 50's and 60's will get grand-fathered into Medicare as we know it, though premiums will escalate considerably. Barry is scared to death to have the consitutionality of the Obama care reach the Supreme Court on a fast track basis. I think he knows or believes he has a good chance of seeing his biggest waste of time/resources be overturned. I wonder if he regrets giving the finger to Roberts, et. al. in his 2010 State of The Union Address? :content: HH
