NPR today apologized to four-year-old Abigael Evans, of Fort Collins, Colo., after learning that one of their reports on the 2012 election was the cause for her tears.

"On behalf of NPR and all other news outlets, we apologize to Abigael and all the many others who probably feel like her," NPR's Mark Memmott writes. "We must confess, the campaign's gone on long enough for us, too. Let's just keep telling ourselves: 'Only a few more days, only a few more days, only a few more days.'"

"Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said at a GOP primary debate last June that he would "absolutely" shut down FEMA and transfer its responsibilities to the states. "If you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better," Romney added."

What, another flip flop by Romney?

“I believe that FEMA plays a key role in working with states and localities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters,†Romney said in a statement. “As president, I will ensure FEMA has the funding it needs to fulfill its mission, while directing maximum resources to the first responders who work tirelessly to help those in need, because states and localities are in the best position to get aid to the individuals and communities affected by natural disasters.â€

Watched an excellent programme on Aussie TV last night

http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/2294844598/The-Choice-S1-Ep2 (Maybe allows rerun outside Aus?)

Looking in depth at Obama and Romney. Obama came across as idealistic but naive that he could achieve consensus politics to get the country out its financial mess when he first came to office. But Romney...what a flim flam man..worse than a used car salesman. He'll reinvent himself anyway you like..tell you anything he thinks you want to hear. I haven't taken much interest in fact checking previously...not my problem...I can’t vote. Except that I do know something about global politics and I dread Romney being elected...he hasn't a clue.... a male version of Sarah Palin. There's a heap of trouble coming America's way..wars probably in which none of his children will serve just like chickenhawk daddy....and more how to lose friends and stop influencing people.

But I was appalled to watch with my own eyes the way he flip flops.

He won the Massachusetts governorship in his debate flooring his opponent with a blatant lie

"I respect and will protect a woman’s right to choose.â€

"You know, I never really called myself pro-choice" ""Look, I was pro-choice. I am pro-life. You can go back to YouTube and look at what I said in 1994. I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice. I changed my position."

Obamacare was based on Massachusetts' Romneycare, but now he wants to scrap it.

And now as Unit731 points out Romney the chameleon is trying to piggyback Sandy disaster relief.

I really fear for USA if Romney is elected. 47% of you don’t count anyway, and if you try to count we’ll take away your right to vote with bullshit photo ID requirements. How can you be so gullible?

Does anyone know who Romney really is?

He’s a bigger conman than Joseph Smith, once charged with selling fake jewels, who then went on to discover the Angel Moroni’s golden tablets that only he could read about Jesus visiting America and the Garden Of Eden being just east of Missouri. Completely wacko but Romney believes it and this man may have his finger on the button! Incredible...Hollywood couldn’t make it up!

More flip flops here.. http://samuel-warde.com/2012/06/list-of-mitt-romney-flip-flops/

U.S. Prosperity Slides in Index That Ranks Norway No. 1

By Simon Kennedy - Oct 29, 2012

The U.S. slid from the top ten most prosperous nations for the first time in a league table which ranked three Scandinavian nations the best for wealth and wellbeing.

The U.S. fell to 12th position from 10th in the Legatum Institute’s annual prosperity index amid increased doubts about the health of its economy and ability of politicians. Norway, Denmark and Sweden were declared the most prosperous in the index, published in London today.

With the presidential election just a week away, the research group said the standing of the U.S. economy has deteriorated to beneath that of 19 rivals. The report also showed that respect for the government has fallen, fewer Americans perceive working hard gets you ahead, while companies face higher startup costs and the export of high-technology products is dropping.

Sounds like the USA should do some serious soul searching.

Hehehe, just shoot the messenger, if you don't like the message.

Anyway it's well known that in Scandinavia for example the education systems are ecxellent - much better than in Germany for example. They have nearly no drop outs. Kids with problems get personal support from year one. Math/language skills, e. g. are leading world wide.

Now look at USA where you have millions without a degree and who can't even read a newspaper. How will the USA be able to compete with countries like China where the society is obsessed with education?

IMHO that's a ticking (unemployment) time bomb.

Republicans claim they don't need no education.

All that is needed is a damn good gun

and the desireto kill all of the

commies and socialist.

If Jesus was here today,

would Republicans want to kill hiss commie arse?

NY Mayor Bloomberg has just endorsed Obama. Years ago he was a Democrat but ran as a Republican for mayor and is now an independent. Although it wasn't the best of endorsements, he cited issues he had with Obama, he did say the main reason was global warming.

I know we discussed this before. I'm not sure what is what frankly. I don't know the science. I am trying to figure out if either party has a vested interest in anything other than the facts. I know some fringe left want us to practically live in mud huts and be vegetarians even if the science is not accurate (and I don't know for certain it is or isn't) but I think the vast majority truly believe it.

The Republicans I hear are motivated strictly by the oil industry and related petrochemical industry. The run of the mill conservative I meet thinks its junk science but seems to be echoing speaking points.

Lets say the science is not accurate, do we want to chance it? That's my fear. Why not try and reduce or eliminate our needs for fossil fuels? Economies have changed from wood to oil/coal and prospered so why can't we move to alternate forms of energy and still move forward economically?

"Why not try and reduce or eliminate our needs for fossil fuels?"

That could cause some major changes in big industries and cost plenty of money, also costing many workers their jobs (at least for a while). Many have a vested interest in seeing it does not happen. :dunno:

The girls in Soi BJ (Soi 6 Pattaya) would have their work cut out manoeuvring through that lot. Last time I was down there I had to repeatedly tell one girl that I was giving her just one hour to remove her hand from up my shorts or I was going to report her to the tourist police for sexual harassment. :hubbahubba:
