"The charges against Daly were withdrawn on Thursday."

"she panicked when undercover agents from the state's Alcohol Beverage Control division mistook her water purchase for beer."

This was a state of Virginia action. The state of Virginia Alcohol Control Division.

The local police can't handle this? The state police can't handle this? The state of Virginia has to fund another cadre of police?

Does the Virginia Alcohol Police have guns?

So it is illegal to buy beer in Virginia? Or is this about underage or Sunday beer purchases?

On the eve of 'America's Forth of July,

I found this resolution interesting.

Resolution of the Continental Congress Disbanding the Continental Army, 2 June 1784.

So it was Resolved, That the commanding officer be, and he is hereby directed to discharge the troops now in the service of the United States, except 25 privates, to guard the stores at Fort Pitt, and 55 to guard the stores at West Point and other magazines, with a proportionate number of officers; no officer to remain in service above the rank of a captain, and those privates to be retained who were inlisted on the best terms: Provided Congress, before its recess, shall not take other measures respecting the disposition of those troops. That the arrearages of their pay and rations after the 3d of November last, be settled in the same manner as the accounts of the troops lately discharged; and that the Superintendant of Finance take order for furnishing them two months pay.

Fort Pitt is 'Pittsburgh' and was the Fort used during the Indian uprising of 1763 in which British soldiers gave blankets and hankies to the Indians. Those items had smallpox on them!

This resolution brought into existence the short lived Legion of the United States.

The US Navy - including the Continental Marine battalions - was disbanded and all ships sold after the Rev War! The Navy and Marines didn't come back into existence until 1798. Before that time, the only seagoing force was the Revenue Cutter Service (forerunner of the Coast Guard).
