Steve
I read somewhere that the NY defeat was specifically a rejection of Obama's Irsaeli policy being a very large jewish population in that district. The '08 election saw long time Republican strongholds go Democratic. Not sure if any were held as long as this one though. In bad times you'll see changes such as these...and these are some pretty bad times.
Flashermac
Even if it's only a Jewish backlash, it's not a good sign for Obama. Jewish voters usually live in big cities in states with plenty of electoral votes. He needs those votes if he is to stay in the White House. Looks like he may have lost them. Flashermac
Seeing Ripple in Jewish Vote WASHINGTON — Not since Jimmy Carter in 1980 has a Democrat running for president failed to win a lopsided majority of the Jewish vote. This has been true during times of peace or war, and even when there has been deep acrimony between the White House and the Israeli government Republicans see a chance to change that in 2012, with President Obama locked in a tense relationship with Israel’s leaders and criticized by many American Jews as being too tough on a close and favored ally. Tuesday’s Republican upset in New York’s Congressional election, they say, is a sign of bad things to come for Mr. Obama. Sensing trouble, the Obama campaign and Democratic Party leaders have mobilized to solidify the president’s standing with Jewish voters. The Democratic National Committee has established a Jewish outreach program. The campaign is singling out Jewish groups, donors and other supporters with calls and e-mails to counter the Republican narrative that Mr. Obama is hostile to Israel. ... robaus
Thanks for your response CS. The American people deserve better.. at least to hear the truth about the 911 terrorists' motives. Even your veteran journalist Dan Rather self censors omitting the word "Israel" when supposedly quoting verbatim ... disturbing stuff. He could've got a job alongside Winston Smith at the Ministry of Truth in "1984" .. except Smith ultimately had more guts. Judge for yourself hearing the actual testimony at the 911 commission, how they swept the truth under the carpet. It's all on the net these days.. no need to listen to your lying politicians and media spin doctors. Bin Liner stated his feelings about Israel prior to 911 in an interview with ABC journalist John Miller in 1998 http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/binladen/who/interview.html "Your position against Muslims in Palestine is despicable and disgraceful. America has no shame. ... We believe that the worst thieves in the world today and the worst terrorists are the Americans. Nothing could stop you except perhaps retaliation in kind. We do not have to differentiate between military or civilian. As far as we are concerned, they are all targets, and this is what the fatwah says ... . The fatwah is general (comprehensive) and it includes all those who participate in, or help the Jewish occupiers in killing Muslims. " - Osama bin Laden May 1998 "For over half a century, Muslims in Palestine have been slaughtered and assaulted and robbed of their honor and of their property. Their houses have been blasted, their crops destroyed. And the strange thing is that any act on their part to avenge themselves or to lift the injustice befalling them causes great agitation in the United Nations which hastens to call for an emergency meeting only to convict the victim and to censure the wronged and the tyrannized whose children have been killed and whose crops have been destroyed and whose farms have been pulverized " - Osama bin Laden May 1998 The USA has got it wrong many times in the past and many times got it right too... otherwise I'd be writing in German or Japanese now. Maybe it's time for the USA to reassess its Middle East policy for the good of the USA and its own citizens, not on behalf of jingoistic zealots 5,000 miles away. Robaus...the problem is nobody seems to even know if the current administration has a ME policy, much less what that might be. Whatever it might be, it must be very fluid. And I agree that such a policy/policies should be based on the interests of U.S. citizens and not that of zealots in the ME (or anyplace else, for that matter). Bangkoktraveler
I would say USA policy is based upon the policies of the one who got us into the Afghan and Iraq War. Once into a war we are committed. We should never have started either war. Now money that should be spent in the USA gets spent in Afghanastan and Iraq. Not good. Bangkoktraveler
Republicans should be happy the government is not very stable. They want Obama to fail and it just might happen. Will they really rejoice if Obama fails or will they cry a lot?
cavanami
Another Prez. O screw up! Obama admin. ignored warnings about Solyndra Obama administration ignored warnings about solar firm that got federal loan, then went bust The Obama administration ignored repeated warnings about a clean-energy loan program that has become an embarrassment for the White House amid the collapse of a California solar energy company that received more than $500 million in federal loans. At least three reports by federal watchdogs over the past two years warned that the Energy Department had not fully developed the controls needed to manage the multibillion-dollar loan program that provided more than $528 million to Solyndra Inc., a now-bankrupt solar panel manufacturer... http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Obama-admin-ignored-warnings-apf-2358411967.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=7&asset=&ccode=
Flashermac
It's 7.45am Friday morning - and so far no reports of any new screw up by Obama. Maybe today will be a good day.
