unit731
by Tom Woods There’s a lot of confusion, on right and left alike, regarding the president’s war powers under the Constitution. Here’s an overview of the most common claims on behalf of such powers, along with replies to these claims. “The president has the power to initiate hostilities without consulting Congress.†Ever since the Korean War, Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution – which refers to the president as the “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States†– has been interpreted this way. But what the framers actually meant by that clause was that once war has been declared, it was the President’s responsibility as commander-in-chief to direct the war. Alexander Hamilton spoke in such terms when he said that the president, although lacking the power to declare war, would have “the direction of war when authorized or begun.†The president acting alone was authorized only to repel sudden attacks (hence the decision to withhold from him only the power to “declare†war, not to “make†war, which was thought to be a necessary emergency power in case of foreign attack). Flashermac
Here we go again ... 'Big Red One' HQ will deploy to Iraq The 1st Infantry Division headquarters will deploy to Iraq in the coming weeks as the U.S. expands its war against the Islamic State, officials announced Thursday. The Big Red One, of Fort Riley, Kansas, will be the first division headquarters to go to Iraq since the U.S. withdrawal in 2011. About 500 soldiers will deploy in late October to the Central Command area of operations, Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said Thursday in a briefing with reporters. About 200 of those soldiers will be in Iraq as part of the 475-troop increase announced Sept. 10 by President Obama, Kirby said. Of that group, 138 will be in the Baghdad joint operations center, 68 in Irbil, and 10 at the Ministry of Defense in Baghdad, he said. “They will have command and control of ongoing advise and assist efforts in support of Iraqi and Peshmerga forces, and continue to help us all degrade and destroy [the Islamic State],†Kirby said. The remaining 300 soldiers from 1st Infantry Division headquarters will be based in the CENTCOM AOR; Kirby would not specify where they will be stationed. These soldiers will support the rest of the headquarters element, “but right now there’s no plan to put them inside Iraq,†Kirby said. ... http://www.armytimes.com/article/20140925/NEWS/309250057/-Big-Red-One-HQ-will-deploy-Iraq
cavanami
The Crimes of Eric Holder Holder resigns after years of lawlessness http://www.infowars.com/the-crimes-of-eric-holder/ The announcement of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s resignation today has fueled speculation as to why the controversial figure has chosen to step down. Holder, who was recently found to be the least popular politician in the United States according to a Hart Research poll, is arguably the most criminal government official within the Obama Administration. Among his many crimes, a select few have remained at center stage. Fast and Furious Between 2006 and 2011, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), under the direct command of the Justice Department, secretly pushed southern gun dealers to sell weapons to suspected drug cartel traffickers in order to allegedly track the weapons into Mexico. Despite the administration’s attempt to paint the countless deaths associated as unintended consequences after the program went public, documents obtained by CBS News revealed that the ATF had planned to use the deaths to push a gun control agenda. Eric Holder, who has publicly stated his desire to “ †children to think negatively about gun ownership, has actively worked to keep Fast and Furious documents from becoming public. Unfortunately for Holder, a judge has denied his request to delay the release of a list of Operation Fast and Furious documents currently being protected under the President’s assertion of executive privilege. Or a pilot with mechanical issues. I've been scared shit less when a whole race of people (or at least the Commie half) wanted to kill me. At that time I carried a clean (in cellophane) white handkerchief in one pocket of my flak jacket and a fresh hand grenade in the other pocket of my flak jacket.
Flashermac
Woman beheaded at Oklahoma factory as sacked Muslim worker goes on deadly rampage A man sacked from an Oklahoma food processing plant beheaded a woman with a knife and was attacking another worker when he was shot and wounded by a company official, police said on Friday. Moore Police Sergeant Jeremy Lewis said police are waiting until Alton Nolen, 30, is conscious to arrest him in Thursday’s attack and have asked the FBI to help investigate after co-workers at Vaughan Foods in the Oklahoma City suburb told authorities that he recently started trying to convert several employees to Islam. Nolen severed the head of Colleen Hufford, 54, Lewis said. “Yes, she was beheaded,†Lewis said. Lewis said Nolen then stabbed Traci Johnson, 43, a number of times before Mark Vaughan, a reserve sheriff’s deputy and the company’s chief operating officer, shot him. “This was not going to stop if he didn’t stop it. It could have gotten a lot worse,†Lewis said. “The threat had already stopped once we arrived.†Lewis said Moore police have asked the FBI to look into the man’s background because of the nature of the attack, which follows a series of videotaped beheadings by Islamic State militants. In a statement, FBI Special Agent in Charge James Finch said the motive for the attack had not been determined but that there is no reason to believe there is a threat to anyone else. A law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said that while there was indication that Nolen was a Muslim convert and was trying to convert others to Islam, there is so far no connection to terrorism and no evidence of any worrisome travel. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, said Nolen had a Facebook page that was of potential interest to investigators but that “there doesn’t appear to be any nexus to terrorism right now.†But the official also said investigators were still looking into Nolen’s background. Johnson and the suspect were hospitalised and in stable condition on Friday, Lewis said. Nolen had not yet been charged and Lewis said he didn’t know what charges the suspect would face. Oklahoma Department of Corrections records say Nolen has served time in prison and is on probation for assault and battery on a police officer. He also was convicted of cocaine possession with intent to distribute in 2011. Corrections records show Nolen has what appear to be religious tattoos, including one referencing Jesus and one in Arabic that means “peace be with you.†Lewis said Nolen had been sacked in a building that houses the company’s human resources office, then immediately drove to the entrance of the business. Lewis said he didn’t know why the man was dismissed. A Vaughan spokeswoman said the company was “shocked and deeply saddened†by the attack. http://www.scmp.com/news/world/article/1601554/woman-beheaded-oklahoma-factory-sacked-worker-goes-deadly-rampage

Flashermac
I notice much the US press seems to be failing to mention that the nut case is a Muslim convert who had been trying to convert his work colleagues. Can you say PC one over the top?

Flashermac
Very good move by the company ... having a manager who is a part-time deputy sheriff! Pity the deputy couldn't have shot straighter and saved the taxpayers some money.
