Visa run to Cambodia or Laos.. by train?

Recommended Posts

I had heard through the grapevine that the BKK/Aranyaprathet trains now have better cars/seats available. I just checked the SRT site and they show rates for 1st Class (222 baht), 2nd Class (111 baht), and 3rd Class (48 baht).

Schedule only has 2 trains/day to Aran. For a visa run, I'd take the train that leaves about 7 a.m. and arrives about 11:30 a.m. Cross into Cambo and come back to BKK in the afternoon or overnight in Poipet. (I recommend the Holiday Hotel/casino at about 1200/night; have stayed there on several trips to meet up with Ms Hoy.) Take the bus back to BKK in the afternoon or the next day. Plenty of busses leaving about every 30 minutes from Aran to BKK.

Corinthian...Obviously not an overnight trip.

PM me for any details you'd like.

Wow, how's that for an inflation-buster...the prices haven't budged in 11 years! And yeah, the schedule is the same as it was back then too. I also took the afternoon train that arrived in Arany at dusk, and stayed overnight in Arany for around 150 baht before proceeding to the border by tuk-tuk in the morning.

Also, fark all to do on the Cambodian side except look at the poverty.

But if you're only going for a visa run, you can do it in a day and much cheaper; ya don't have to stick around looking at poverty; in fact, not likely to see much of that if you're just stamping in and out of Cambo. Too, with the new highway, it's only about 2 hours (or less) from Poipet to Siem Reap/Angkor Wat.
