No problem on disagreements in the thread, life would be boring otherwise. And thank you Gobble for the itemized list of contributors to avoid, I made sure to star all those names and place them on a stick em note next to the keyboard. :)

Friends in town over the weekend - broke out of my self imposed exile from the bars. The goal was to go 10 days, I managed to last 4. Not too shabby.

Yeah, so anyway - was killing time before setting of to meet them, decided to have a beer at Strikers and see if their situation has improved. It hasn't - I couldn't see a single item of eye candy, just several cheap charlies (like myself) taking advantage of the free pool. So - I'm sitting at the rail getting ready to checkbin and this procession starts, long lines of Thai folks (containing a lot of eye candy I might add) begin walking past strikers headed down towards nana plaza - all wearing white t-shirts that read "I love police" - some of the shirts were in Thai, some in English.

Curious, I walk down yonder to see what's going on and these folk are lining both sides of the street in front of the bars. And then, lo and behold, in the nana hotel parking lot is an enormous amassing of police. Uh oh. This could be interesting. It's going down.

But.... it wasn't. Turned out to be some ceremony celebrating the new safety zone or something. Alright enough babble. These pics are even more shite than the last batch because the light was dim and I was moving.

- i love police group walking in front of strikers, there were several of these coming by in chunks.

- once again sorry these really are lousy. this is a tiny glimpse in front of hillary bar, but these crazed protestors lined both sides of the street, starting around morning night and extending pretty far down soi 4

- they were nice enough to give out this helpful pamphlet

There were a lot of seated police brass on the other side of the parking lot but it was a challenge for me to get a good pic. I think these guys were the rookies.

- so after the ceremony in the nana parking lot they have this long procession down nana and several of the officers break off and guess where they go - hillary 4 bar. i guess that's where i'm going. they had a few tv cameras in there, words were spoken, the crowd cheered, and i still couldn't figure out what the hell was going on.

Strange experience of my own yesterday - my taxi driver had stacks of CDs of Thai movies and TV shows which he kept trying to show me, as he sped down Wipawadee without looking where he was going! When I showed no interest, he pulled out a big sack, saying he had 70 porn CDs ..."all university girls". (Yeah, right.) Only 200 baht for 3. When I didn't want to look through them, he finally shrugged and said, "You must have Thailand wife." Uh-huh. Then he got back to driving. Amazingly, we arrived at my destination without colliding with anyone on the way. First time I have ever encountered a tout with his own taxi.

JaiRai, if you ,look closely at the photo of the cops sitting on top of the bikes in Nana carpark, you will notice that there are zero girls in the photo. Given that the cops normally target the ladyboys, this is somewhat odd - I wont link to Stickman Weekly out of fear of one of Munchy's outbursts, but all is (apparently) revealed in his latest 'Banana Plaza' piece. Note his claim that the 'crackdown' may have been the result of nearby bars resentment toward a parking lot full of available girls with no barfine or ladydrink revenue attached to them. If that is the case - and I'm not saying it is - then perhaps its time Thailand's finest started conducting ID checks on all the girls in the bars and carting the ladyboys off to a nice, cosy cell. Better yet, get them over to the other side of Suk where the REAL crime parades around in full view of Joe and Gemima Tourist.

I definitely suspect you're right and the bars are a crucial part of the crackdown, eg, a girly bar shells out a lot more tea money than a straight pub. At least that's what I've been led to believe.

I'm about to meet a woman I met last weekend at Emporium, in Bang Sue at a Thai bar. If I don't post again, hopefully my demise was worthwhile. :)

Speaking of Emporium, found this across the street close to suk and soi 33.
