gobbledonk
Relax, Flash - they cant even get the trains running on time in Sydney, and that's supposed to be a '21st Century' city. We're all doomed - time to move to a shack in Nakhon Nowhere with some seeds and a goat. Er, and a woman, of course !
Flashermac
Unless you are a Kiwi. Then a goat is company enough. Oh, the wonderful PT gummint wants to put the country deeply into debt to build a high speed rail network. They can't even keep the current old one running halfway decently. Another of Thaksin's great ideas, plenty more money in contracts for his family and friends.
cavanami
No brown/blackouts down here in Samut Sakhon. The brown/blackouts had been announced on the Thai TV News for the past week. It is an old ploy of the govs to build additional power plants and raise the cost of the electric. Remember Enron and all the brown/blackouts that they had in California, later exposed to be all the doings of Enron to make extra $$$? The story is that Thailand had been buying electricity from Burma but now Burma has stopped selling.
jon46
yes indeed, brown and blackouts in California have disappeared with the demise of Enron. It was artificially created to generate more money for Enron. Hey, recently the news reported that Jeff Skilling, the former CEO of Enron, may have his 24 years prison sentence reduced in a deal with the Feds. On a separate question, I wonder if the smog/pollution in Bangkok is worst than Beijing?
Mekong
A lot of the power outages can be put down to Myanmar carrying out maintenance on the export gas line to Thailand and have shut the tap for 2 weeks. A lot of EGAT plants are Gas Turbine and the Thai's in their wisdom did not build a Buffer / Reserve into the Gas Supply and just took it straight from the pipe. They were warned by people in Higher positions than me.
