Court to rule on arrest warrants for 16 protest leaders

The Criminal Court will decide tomorrow (Tuesday) whether to issue arrest warrants for 16 core leaders of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee as requested by the Department of Special Investigation.

DSI chief Tarit Pengdit told the court today that the 16 protest leaders had violated the Emergency Decree and, therefore, should be held in custody, whereas the defence lawyer raised his objection to the arrest warrants.

The 16 protest leaders are Suthep Thaugsuban, Sathit Wongnongtoey, Thavorn Senniam, Chumpol Julasai, Putthipong Punnakan, Issara Somchai, Witthaya Kaewparadai, Natthapol Theepsuwan, Ekkanat Promphan, Ms Anchalee Praireerak, Niittithorn Lumlua, Uthai Yodmanee, Samdin Lertbutr. General Preecha Iamsuphan, Ratchayut Sirayothinpakdee and Kittichai Saisa-ard.

What are people's thoughts on the shut down of the voting places in Bangkok? It seems like a bad move to me. Spoke with some Thai folks last night who have no horse in this race but were sympathetic towards the protestors a week ago, now they're getting a little pissed and the goodwill is waning.

Have not spoken to anyone about that. But yes, that was a very very very stupid move on part of the protesters. They should have held a flower vigil or something like that. Asking people that if they would vote to please vote "responsibly" and give them a flower.

But that blocking of people at polling boots will have cost them sympathy, question is .... how much.
