YimSiam Posted April 25, 2015 Report Share Posted April 25, 2015 I just came in through Suvarnabhumi yesterday - went to sit and watch the taxi queues while I had my pre-taxi smoke, and can't help but note the classic developments concerning the computerization of the taxi assignments: there are now six or twelve or sixteen computerized kiosks with touch screen, and the usual corral leading up the them. Of course, with flighty touch screens and weak networks links, individual printers that go offline, perhaps pirated software billed at full genuine article price - well, seems none of them work, they are all just mute pillars now, and there is one guy there who prints out on one of the machines a whole sheaf of taxi assignment slips, and then hands them individual to each person as they reach the head of the line - in other words, it's basically the old system, but without the benefit of a friendly, english-speaking lady writing down your address on the slip... Then a time later, there is a group of polite uniformed people, utilising institutional knowledge and what they did yesterday, to accomplish what ever it is.
