Now, it is just numbers. http://youtu.be/zmuAJsq5rmE Can anyone here grasp the enormity of this find?

Mekong
If that is a Yaesu-FT990 from memory they only had Am, Upper side, Lower Side, Carrier Wave, FM and Frequency Shift Keying capabilities but no SW "The Numbers" were (are) sent via OWVL (one way voice link) over Short Wave <<<---- Ex Licence Holder RSGB Class A
Guest
Looked up a Yaesu-FT990 user manual online if that helps .... http://www.manualsli...esu-Ft-990.html
radioman
Hehe, Well as a confirmed lifelong ham nerd, licence holder in UK and Thailand and still active (callsigns on request ) you'll get me started on bout the only other thing besides pussy that gets me excited. Now the 990 was a baby brother to the 1000, it had no second receiver but was general coverage from low kHz upto 30MHz. So with an AM detector and full MF/HF coverage it makes a decent enough short wave broadcast receiver. In addition to being an SSB/CW/FSK/FM amateur bands transceiver of course. They never sold many, the 1000 had a second receiver which makes split operation much easier.
Guest
Just as a matter of interest, what is the box sitting on top of the receiver in the video and it's purpose ?
