A BUS driver in Pattaya, Thailand, has been hospitalized with a broken leg after he was reportedly assaulted by a group of Indian tourists today.

The injured man, Somchai Intasoi, suffered the attack around 3am as he was dropping off the group at their hotel near the Dolphin Circle.

According to Khaosod English, the “baht bus†driver was hired by the group to take them to their hotel located on a one-way street.

When Somchai mistakenly missed the stop, the tourists asked him to drive around the large block to drop them off in front of the building.

Somchai refused, and the group exited the vehicle without paying. When Somchai ran after them to demand they pay the fare, a heated argument ensued that quickly turned violent when one of the tourists reportedly grabbed a wooden stick and beat him with it.

Colonel Sukhat Pumpanmuang of the Pattaya City Police Station noted that the language barrier between Somchai and the tourists was a major factor in the incident, reported Khaosod.

The driver was still in the hospital this afternoon being treated for his injuries, and the tourists have not yet been charged, said Pumpanmuang.

The two groups are reportedly in the middle of negotiations on how to settle the matter.

He was quoted as saying: “They are tourists. We don’t want to [press charges] at this moment because we fear it may damage the image of Pattaya.â€
