Sam Kerr, Australian Soccer Star, Charged After Allegedly Calling Cop 'Stupid White Bastard'

 

An Australian soccer star was charged with racially aggravated harassment of a police officer in London after allegedly calling the official a “stupid white bastard” during an incident last year.

Sam Kerr — the captain of Australia’s national women’s soccer team, the Matildas — was charged over an incident in January 2023 that centered on a dispute over a taxi fare in London. Court documents made public this week claim the superstar allegedly intended to cause the officer “harassment, alarm or distress” by using “abusive or insulting words or behavior.”

Kerr has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Kerr, 30, is of Indian heritage. She plays for the English team Chelsea when she is not playing for Australia.

The incident prompted fierce scrutiny in Kerr’s native Australia, which was initially roiled by the news after vague reports that she had used a racial slur during the incident. She quickly became one of the country’s most recognizable sportswomen after last year’s Women’s World Cup and the reports threatened to taint her legacy.

Kerr is due to face trial in February 2025, more than two years after the alleged incident. Her attorneys are reportedly planning to ask the court to downgrade or dismiss the charge at a hearing next month, questioning why it took more than a year for charge to be filed.

 

Chelsea’s manager, Emma Hayes, said Kerr retained the club’s “full support” after the reports, calling the moment a “difficult time for her.”

“You know there’s difficult moments, there’s tough times, and that’s what my role is in this football club, is to make sure I look after our people and I just want to be clear that Sam will be fully supported by me and everybody else at Chelsea,” Hayes told media outlets.

Chris Minns, the premier of the state of New South Wales, home to Sydney, said he wouldn’t think the comment was racist.

And Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he wouldn’t comment on the charge, but said Kerr’s behavior toward him had been “exemplary.”

If she’s convicted, Kerr could face a prison sentence of up to two years or a large fine.

28Meaning of “racially aggravated”.

(1)An offence is racially aggravated for the purposes of sections 29 to 32 below if—

(a)at the time of committing the offence, or immediately before or after doing so, the offender demonstrates towards the victim of the offence hostility based on the victim’s membership (or presumed membership) of a racial group; or

(b)the offence is motivated (wholly or partly) by hostility towards members of a racial group based on their membership of that group.

(2)In subsection (1)(a) above—

“membership”, in relation to a racial group, includes association with members of that group;

“presumed” means presumed by the offender.

(3)It is immaterial for the purposes of paragraph (a) or (b) of subsection (1) above whether or not the offender’s hostility is also based, to any extent, on—

(a)the fact or presumption that any person or group of persons belongs to any religious group; or

(b)any other factor not mentioned in that paragraph.

(4)In this section “racial group” means a group of persons defined by reference to race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins.

 

Note there is nothing stated above that these rules only apply to so called minorities

Section (4) Colour it does not exclude white as a colour for this act, yet many people seem to think that colour only applies to Black, Brown and Yellow but not White

So the CPS is quite right to prosecute under Section 28 (4) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and should do so more often

Guarantee he's been called a lot worse during his time serving as "Police Officer"

5555.  I doubt if most people in the UK have even heard of her until this made the headlines, women’s football is on par with Snooker and Darts and hardly anyone would recognise a player if they walked past them in the street.

And calling an aboriginal copper a black cunt in Sydney is not really a comparable . I'm pretty sure these type of Acts we introduced were to protect minorities in society. Last I looked white people made up about 80% of the population.

We can argue the validity of this till the cows come home but at the end of the day, pretty soft on the officers part.

So let’s get this straight, according to your way of thinking

If, in the West, a Christian verbally assaults a Muslim or a Jew that is a hate crime, but if a Muslim or a Jew verbally assaults a Christian then that is OK since Muslims and Jews are the Minority in the West

If a Heterosexual verbally assaults a Trams or Gay person that is a hate crime, but if a Trans ot Gay person verbally assaults a Heterosexual person then that is OK since Trans and Gays are a Minority

How about a White guy rapes a Black woman, that is rape yes, but if the other way around and a Black guy rapes a White woman then that is OK since he is in the minority so laws don’t apply to him.

Maybe laws should not apply to people over 65 since less than 20% of the population therefore a minority or maybe lays shouldn’t apply to men since only 49% of population therefore a minority. How about people with GreenEyes (22%) or Left Handed People (10%) they are also minority
