Hey BB, there are lots of oranges in LOS. NOT mandarins.

Problem is that they ae truly seasonal and hotels in particular have to price them in order to appease the bbc (basement bean counters)

Things like oranges and potatoes can run from 3 baht a kg to 40 baht a kg in a matter of a couple of months. Unfortunately, the seasons dictate the market through supply and demand and the highest demand is normally the lowest season. Unlike the "developed" world that demand and expects all seasonal fruit to be available 12 months a year in perfect condition, Asians still cling to the old system. Ali Akbar.

Don't know about BKK, but in CM the street vendors are still the best deal when the fruit is available. Beware of those that don't sqeeze it on site as it is aften adulterated with cheap synthetic (read chemical) OJ. Also the quality and sweetness varies by plantation and even time of harvest.

If OJ is your real concern, visit Florida. But be warned, the sanuk there is the pits.
