Crackdown Over! Police lay down the law!

A bar owner told me last night that the earlier closing has cut her revenues by one third.

My guesss is that a lot of the financially weaker bars will probably go bust before the crack down ends, leaving the surviving one the option of pushing up their prices due to the reduced competition.

Well, you just answered any remaining questions that I had. lol.

Now I know why you can't hardly get it, even when paying for it.

Man, why all the hostility? You know that doesn't go over very well over here? Chill out. Reason why women like me is because I'm just a nice guy. I don't go out with the intention of "sacking" someone tonight. I just have a good time and they pick up on that. Am I an expert? No, never claimed to be. Just that I try to be a nice guy. Second, some girls are shark like. They tend to be the stunners and many of them move on to make a mark. Then again, there are still a whole bunch who just like to laugh.

If I really wanted to put you in your place, I would take your lousy "bet". But if you ever thought it through you would know it's a sucker bet. You think you rigged it for yourself, where you get to "pick" the girl. All I'd have to do is communicate that I'd barfine her and we'd split the difference with no boom boom necessary. Even the sharks would pick up on this.

Now here I said I wasn't going to dispute your "truths" here on this board and I'm giving you advice.

I'm going to try and make tonight, but I do have a previous dinner appointment (hmm, maybe with just a nice girl???) and may be thai'd up (cough cough).

Just trying to have a little fun. Try it sometime.

p.s.: I know all of about 100 words of Thai.

Oh I forgot to reply to one item.

>>I don't recall you posting any sort of "info" that would have any sort of redeeming value on this board.

Yup. I really haven't posted much as there isn't much to respond too. Although sometimes folks think about investing or doing weird things with their money and I try to speak up and say that it is risky. I predicted on this board or nanapong where Thaksin was going to get his funding for his village revolving fund before it came out in the papers. I predicted what Moody's was going to do (issue a statement about ratings) with regards to the current government's nationalistic policy. I had a lengthy economic argument about the invalidity of the value-added of MLM companies.

Chill out a little bit :p

OOH,

A free short-time for Gummigut tonight!!! (doubtful the girl could stand longer)

I will be happy to vouch for Gummigut's standards. Although his hunting skills leave something to be desired (he took me to the only Kareoke in Ban Phe that apparantly specialized in ugly girls) he is quick to cast aside each and every girl who refuses to talk to him. Now that's self control.

Now who wants to pay for my next short-time?

Hi!

gummigut

I would be interested to know if you can uphold a converstion in Thai with a vocabluray of 100 words. I probably understand slightly more and I know that I can't.

ALHOLK

P.S.

I know that LT can be had for 1000 Baht at NEP as that is what I paid on a couple of occasions.

Bars hit by early closures

By Anan Paengnoy

The Nation

Published on Aug 24, 2001

Bar workers and operators have been hit hard by the government's get

tough policy on night time entertainment venues.

They have complained of sharply reduced income due to a decline in

customers, particularly foreign tourists, after police began strict

enforcement of the 2am closing limit under an order from the

government.

Ben (surname withheld), a 32yearold bar girl in Patpong, yesterday

blamed the gettough policy for a sharp decline in her income. She said

she now earned between Bt100 and Bt200 a day, compared to Bt1,000

previously.

"Some day I almost earned nothing. Customers are simply being scared

away; foreigners are very rare now. I think they don't want to get

into trouble. You can see a lot of police around after midnight," she

said.

The bar girl said the government should view the night entertainment

business as a major earner of foreign currency and that scaring

foreign tourists away from night spots would deal a big blow to

efforts to boost the economy.

Natarat Buakam, 30, another worker in a Patpong bar, also complained

of reduced earnings as a result of the strict enforcement of closing

time.

She called for the limit to be eased, saying those venues should be

allowed to stay open until 3 to 4 am. She said now it was clear that

the government would declare specific zones for entertainment venues,

in which closing time could be extended until 5am, it was justifiable

to start relaxing the rule immediately. "We bar workers have a really

hard time now," Natarat said.

"Customers are not happy when police get in [to enforce the closing

time] and not many people want to visit the bars now," she said.

"Sometimes our foreign customers were still enjoying their food, when

police arrived and ordered immediate closure. That's so strict."

However, she also expressed sympathy for the police, saying they were

merely following orders from higher authorities.

Bar workers' opinions were expressed during a discussion on the impact

of strict closingtime enforcement held by Patpong bar operators and

Empower, an advocacy group that works to help sex workers.

Praphan Pumchaosuan, leader of the bar operators, said that since the

strict enforcement began back in April, Patpong bars had lost a large

amount of income. Many of the venues were losing more than Bt100,000 a

month, he said.

"Everybody has been affected: the business operator, the worker, the

customer," he said.

The bar operator proposed that the rule be relaxed at least until the

new zoning system was applied.

Chaicharn Chaiwat, an adviser to the Patpong baroperators' group, said

he was confident Patpong would be included in the latenight zoning

plan. He said recent strict enforcement was scaring away customers and

reducing the income of bar girls, workers, plus street vendors near

the entertainment venues.

Chanvipa Apisuk, from Empower, said bar workers had been hit hard by

the gettough policy.

Haha. I like the scene in Indo but I cannot get LOS out of my head whenever I go there. Love the girls and scenery but just cannot get to grips with the fellows chain smoking screaming "HELLO MISTER" every damn place I walk. Indo is 3rd world, Bangers it ain't.

Cheers,

Forgive me if this has already been discussed before....

I get the impression from the news and talk around town that this "crackdown" has everything to do with the goverment wanting to have the image about doing "something" about the drug problem, and nothing or very little to do with prostitution.

BTW, down in Pattaya, the police came by around midnight to remind all the bar owners they must shut down by 2AM. Seems to be everywhere.
