huumlaar
What is the ratio of price when negotiating for an item in patpong night market. I've found the formula to be the same all over the world in markets. 1/2 to a 1/3 of the first asking price. How you get there is up to you and your desire for the object. My rule of thumb is never suggest a price, let them drop the price, show mild interest, move away, come back to it, move away, if they don't keep pushing the price down, they aren't desperate enough to sell at a big enough discount to make it worth your while buying it. NEVER suggest a price then if it's accepted then refuse to buy it though.
Mekong
Personally I find Patpong Night Market a tourist trap selling the usual fake shit. Far better IMHO to take the sky train to Saphan Taksin and then the free river taxi down to Asiatique That being said sitting outside Madrid bar at 4PM watching them set the stalls up is good free entertainment

Flashermac
The Patpong market is indeed a tourist trap, as is Khao Sarn Road. You can beat their prices almost anywhere.
