  1. Go to Saudi and see how retarded the men are. Put a woman in a car alone in Saudi and every Saudi male will be chasing after her. The guy has a point, the men are all sexual retards.
  2. Sure there are a few here who could come up with some very amusing captions for both those pictures
  3. That is one butt ugly woman! Apologies for the TF.
  4. I'm not sure of the precise protocol here but I've always understood it to be Newcastle upon Tyne.
  5. What? The fact that it's an April fools joke?
  6. Quibbling over details here possibly. How far toward Silom does Sathorn police district extend? As a Bangkok newbie I at times confused the two. Nobody is naming the bar which could conceivably be the same. If the restaurant is KNOWN for selling drugs how come it's still open?
  7. A friend now sadly no longer with us told the tale back when he was an EU ambassador type in BKK how, many years ago a large US defence company offered to build and operate a new international airport in Bangkok for 20 years totally FOC. A 100% gold plated gift. It all fell apart once it was realised that the whole procurement/pension process would be out of Thai hands
  8. The son was his cameraman. These guys are a father and son team in the same business it seems. Probably the sons choice to go. Up to him.
  9. Interesting factoid. I wonder where the "boundaries" are for this to apply? Would it include Suvarnabhumi and the Japanese gentleman's destination? I live in Pathum Thani province but have never known a taxi to suggest "no need meter, not Bangkok!", either going to, or from Bangkok or for journeys within the local area. I've seen tables of fares to up country locations hanging from the back of seats in taxis but I can't recall anywhere it indicating the fare might be open to negotiation. Maybe it is.
  10. Is there not a law that says taxis must use the meter? A law is a law is a law, so use the meter, anything else is unacceptable. If it's not a law then everyone needs to know they are on their own when it comes to pricing. Interestingly on a flight it is quite possible that the person next to you paid half or double what you did for the same seat. But I would further state that I think most people know that airline seats are sold in such a fashion and through such channels over such a period of time that this is considered a standard business model, and so far as I imagine there is not a statute that prohibits this. Any official of an organisation that intimates it's okay for members of that organisation to break laws needs replacing.
  11. Most 10 year olds today can torrent download anything they want. The old bricks n mortar pirate software shop is just about dead I'd have thought
  12. Crime is hugely unreported in much of the middle east region due in part to the bizarre, ineffective and dumb "justice" system. Just look at how rape investigations are done and the burden of proof required, not to mention how "justice" is applied and it's hardly surprising it's an almost non existent crime so far as statistics go. Rather than think a "reported" high crime rate is a price for being civilised and free think in terms of "Lies, damn lies, and statistics"
  13. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/457571/andrew-drummond-quits-thailand Crusading journo quits Thailand Andrew Drummond, a British investigative journalist who has specialised in exposing the activities of foreign criminals in Thailand, is leaving the country after 25 years. In a statement posted on his popular website, Mr Drummond said he was returning to Britain because he and his family no longer felt safe in Thailand. "The primary reasons were a direct threat to the safety of himself and his three children from foreign criminals in Thailand working in liaison with the Thai Police and Thailand’s Computer Crime Act, which he said was being used by foreign criminals to silence criticism of their activities," the statement said. Mr Drummond's body of work includes countless reports on the shady activities of foreign crooks, from financial swindlers to sex traffickers and killers, mostly based in Pattaya and Phuket. The reports have outraged and titillated readers in equal measure, while making their author the target of frequent litigation and threats. "I have enjoyed my time in Thailand where I have made many good Thai and foreign friends but there comes a time having too much knowledge which I cannot keep to myself can be too dangerous," he wrote on his website. "My well being has been threatened as have those of my children. This is not of course the first time, but the recent threat came from a group of people who have killed with impunity before, and have even had police set up people on false charges." Mr Drummond also said he had "left information in Thailand which should be of use to the DSI" in conducting further investigations. He also expressed dismay at the growing use of the Computer Crime Act to intimidate and silence people who expose wrongdoing. He mentioned the Phuket-based journalists Alan Morison and Chutima Sidasathian, who are being sued by the navy for reprinting a Reuters report that alleges complicity by navy officers in human trafficking. He also mentioned Andy Hall, the migrant workers' advocate who faces a number of court cases. "The harassment of Andy, Alan and Chutima, has no place in a country calling itself free," he wrote. "Thailand's inability to take criticism, and its greatly flawed justice system, are major handicaps to its progress." Mr Drummond said he still faced three lawsuits in Thailand by people accused of criminal activities in his investigative reports. "I have worked as a journalist for over twenty years in Britain, the United States and Australia without being sued once," he wrote. "In many ways foreign criminals will be seen to have won this battle. They have not won the war."
  14. Seventh Son, Weak and tired, few redeeming features, something to doze off to.
  15. My wife bought a plot, about 6 or 7 rai on the edge of the village, it's mostly rice or sweetcorn at times and is worked by the other villagers, she gets a cut of the annual harvest takings. Her plan is that since village land is not growing though the population is they will need plots for housing in time. She will divide it up into about a dozen 200sqw lots and sell them off. Given what she paid for the land, about 300,000 and the offers she's already had for the whole lot I think it will be a nice little earner in another 10 to 15 years.
  16. If they cannot provide the info themselves, or where it is documented, I fail to see how they can state what it is.
  17. Yeah, an area between Sukhumvit and Rama IV is known as "The Tobacco Monopoly" for a reason.
  18. Presumably your accountant has a copy? 6 years is not a long time (in Thailand). Taxi rates have remained static much longer.
  19. Darwinism needs no help!
  20. Great report FJ, smells and tastes just like some of my experiences.
