Hi!

The soi 10 story also made the Swedish newspapers today (jan. 28). Although prostitution was mentioned as always in articles about Thailand the area was resonably accurately desribed as a tourist area with bars restaurants and tourist shops. It wasn't a front page story but it did run over several columns with a picture of the devastation.

Thailand is one of the largest tourist destinations for Swedes. Trying to guess any figures would be meaningless but articles like this do certainly affect peoples view of Thailand and some will most likely reconsider going there.

There have been a number of posts on how this might affect foreign investments in Thailand. I seriously doubt if it would affect large corporations like MicroShaft, IBM, Volvo etc. as they have both political connections and hoards of lawers. However individuals might think twice about investing a siginifiacant part of their savings in small bussineses, I know I would.

Great, but we all know that that Sweden is a civilized, open, free, socialistic country. :grinyes:

Now what about the rest of the XXXXXX? (no politics, right)

Hey KS, I need the Graemlin that shots his foot off, then commits suicide by jumping out of his basement apartment.

Small point, but...

You ask if we would be concerned by a landlord/tenant dispute in Russia.

Answer, probably not, but...

Would I feel confident and secure about running a business in Russia? No. Would I have an overall impression that it can be an unsafe place where the justice system is very flawed, and mafia-type gangs could seriously interfere with a business? Yes.

I'm not saying this view is justified, but impressions can count for a lot.

Such events in themselves do not have a massive impact, but they can certainly contribute to a general view that a country is not a safe and scrupulous place to deal with.

sure thailand is totally opposite! all foreign investors (in bars and similar business) are welcome; law and justice are easily enfocable and nobody interferes in your just a little bit illegal business activities; everybody helps you to achieve a good profit on your investment!

Hi!

Legal bussinese are however a whole different ball game. I met a danish bloke that had a perfectly legit restaurant. One day he was given two options. The first being to terminate his lease prematurely without reimbursement. The second option was a bullet in the head that would be delivered immediately. He never told me which option he chose though. :D

Sometimes I wonder if some Thais are completely stupid as they semme to think that they can take over foreign managed bussineses and run them with the same profits, or is it that some Thais can't stand farangs making money in their country.

[color:"red"]Not being defensive just ensuring that you and I are on the same page. I have no problem with you shifting the focus as long as we both understand that is what you are doing.

Jjsushi,

When someone tells me "Once again you are redirecting and changing the argument." as a rebuttal, I see that as being overly defensive. I guess in this regard, we are on different pages :)
