samak Posted June 7, 2003 Report Share Posted June 7, 2003 i think this is a bit a oversimplified picture! i do not know the german routines, but i would guess that a lost passport is not valid anymore and it could be put on some list that sooner or later could get you in some trouble if you continue to use it. You can apply for a second passport in Germany if you need it for multiple trips abroad. It is not a good idea to report one's passport as lost as you will be put on a blacklist of people who maybe sold the passport or used it for illegal purposes.
