Pantip Software Update

Was in Pantip on Monday night and last night as well.

On Sticks weekly update there was no software available Sunday - there must have been a visit due from somebody as for the last 2 nights its back to normal and everything is available.

One drawback I found is that the porn guys on the ground floor are now VERY agressive. I had my arm grabbed and I was physically stopped as I walked by 4 different places and almost forceably dragged into the stall for a "free look" / preview. They were not cases of joking holding then letting go, it took a full minute of walking / trying to walk away before they let go. In one case I almost punched the guy because he was actually hurting me. What gives ? Are they hurting so much from the crackdown ?

Usually, they have a good sense for potential customers ;)

Been to Pantip yesterday as well as today.

Yesterday not a lot of Software, Vendors were rather cautious, lots of the booth's closed. Today everything back to normal.

The "war against Piracy" does not seem to have any lasting Effect. Makes me wonder about the current drug trafficing rate after the "War on Drugs" in Thailand.....

Here's an update based on my visit today:

First, many of the bogus software shops were closed - I would say about half, including the one I usually go to called '256' on the second floor.

Second, I was charged 150 B per game CD. I noticed the same price at a few other shops, but did not check everywhere or the prices of DVDs.

Last, I got jobbed. At KS's recommendation, I went to buy the game called Rise of Nations. I thought that was what I had until I got home and found out I had MS Flight Simulator 2002 Professional Edition. Grrrrrrrr. Ever try to return CDs at Panthip? ::

Hi,

"At KS's recommendation, I went to buy the game called Rise of Nations. I thought that was what I had until I got home and found out I had MS Flight Simulator 2002 Professional Edition."

Lemme know if you want it, I have it installed and do not need the CD anymore to play.

Sanuk!

I have never had any flak trying to exchange bad dvd's at any vendors, I haven't tried it at Panthip, as I found out it was my dvd players fault, not Panthips. I'd say they wouldn't have a problem. I bought James Bond Die Another Day, didn't check it, and it was Moonraker. Woo Hoo it is my favorite James Bond, so no biggie, most pleseant surprise. Worst they can say is no, and then put out the word if they are a good or bad vendor.

Yes, no problems getting things changed. I return the CD in same bag as I bought it in a few days later ...

Since I'm a visitor and do not bring a laptop with me, I have no way to test to see if the product works or not! Even if I did bring one, I usually walk out of Pantip with like 20 different titles purchased all over the plaza. (No chance of me remembering where something came from!)

Funny thing is I've had very few problems with software over there. Probably 95% success. :)

DVD's and VCD's on the other hand I've managed to bat closer to 15% :(

Ah well, may take along the laptop with DVD player next year...

Update as of today.

Policing in effect. Or some such. All devious vendor shops are closed. ALL. Assorted devious asian looking guy types with lists, but they were pretty cautious who they were approaching. The naughty corner in the back of the third floor (for the brits, second yah loonies) was a ghost time.

The seedy guys had lists, but the ones I talked to only had Thai lists.

Took a little walk to Hollywood IT where the gumster was able to get his game fix on. If you don't know where it is, asked someone else is what I always say!!!
