I just got back from Singapore. The day I left, I heard on the news that some government Minister just gave the O.K. to 24 hr. bars with 'dancing on tabletops to be allowed' ... not sure if that meant GoGo's were coming to Singapore or what.

BTW, thumbs up to The Riverview Hotel.

Sing's still the same ... green and clean ... nice change from Bangkok, although, there's guite the menu of female eye candy to feast upon ... Thais included, of course, but lots of China dolls! :grinyes:

NPP - This all came about becasue of one bar - Carnegies where they encuraged customers to dance on the bar (as they do in HKG/Taipei as well) however someone in the Govt pointed out thats its illegal in Singapore. Carnegies is a very popular farang bar with the expat residents of SIN and this did not go down well as you can imagine. Lots of discussion then took place with this being the latest proposal. Certain areas only will be approved for 24 hr bars and cannot be in residential areas.

There will not be GOGO bars in Singapore unfortunately although Orchard Towers was rocking this week with some absolute stunners. US Military in town in a big way and judging by the amount of forces guys walking away from the Towers with katoeys, definatly some sore heads in the morning :doah:

IB - If I am not mistaken, Sparks changed its name a few years ago - could not tell you what too, as I only went there once. Wierd, the security guys escorted me to the taxi fearing I might be mugged or set upon by some pissed Singaporeans at closing time. First and only time that has ever happended to me in Singapore so i chose not to go back....

By the way, dancers on podiums are allowed in disco's its just customers on bars they dont like !!!

Cheers

Article in Honolulu paper yesterday. Singapore is trying to change it's image as a prude/strict country, hense the law changes. Officials said they are after tourist $$$, and so are relaxing many law, but are instituting newer tough one's, as well. They will allow bar top dancing, but also cited 'jaywalking in front of train stations' as a crime now. ::

"sparks occasionally have some show girls of sorts I seem to recall "

These are the notorious "Fashion Shows". Really nice girls parading (with music) through bar in various bathing costumes. Rarely anything daring, but real eye candy nonetheless.

IB13 - I asked my mate just 4 days this very question as we were standing in Ipanema during a pre-public holiday police/immigration raid

It was closed down about a year ago for a refurb and nobody seems to know if its re-open yet :dunno:

End result - we went to Top Ten, which had a fair sprinkling of pretty maidens. The funniest sight though was seeing the katoeys do a runner from Crazy Horse into the car park as they found out about the ongoing raid 2 floors below in Ipanema. You ever seen a katoey run in high heels? :clown:

Cheers
