thai3
Anyone know what you need to do, what bits of paper to collect, where to go, how much to pay, any pitfalls etc to get married in Bkk? Don't intend to do the village bit just the official version. The GF has ID and passport but no birth certificate, something to do with all the papers being lost and seems she cannot get another, will this make a difference? Can you go straight to the UK embassy to apply for a visa after or is there a long wait? I know what to get together for the application. Any advice welcome-peter
BelgianBoy
Peter, You might wanna check also our legal forum on thse matters. Also, did you had a look at the UK embassy website ? Cheers !
Bkkbound04
She;s gonna need to produce her family papers, which is the birth, death.mariage stuff all on on sheet. Sometimes it contains details of stuff thats best forgotton. Hopefully no surprises there for you. Can be replaced, but very tiresome back in the province. If she has been married before it will be on that paper, and if shes still not divorced then she is not free to marry, its a problem. I have come across this before. Its well worth making contact with one of the immigration officers at the embassy and going to talk through your plan with them before applying, they will advise on process and explain what to do to get all the required papers. Not sure what the waiting time for vis interviews, tends to be around 4 to 6 weeks. Email me if u wanna discuss detail. Chok dee JP
thai3
So far: looked on the embassy site as BB suggested, there you can print off a copy of the free to marry form which you have to retype and take to consulate dept at the embassy, costs 2225 to get it signed stamped etc, collect next day. Then you have to go and get this translated which seems to be a bit pricey, many recommend 'the old man' down the street. After that you go with GF to a thai office in Laski, think they might want to see GF papers here where I think you get another bit of paper (takes 2-3 days) to take to the registrar to get the marriage bit of paper. Bit of a carry on, rather like signing on the dole used to be in UK. Site says 3 month wait for visa interview. -peter
Guest
>>>The GF has ID and passport but no birth certificate, something to do with all the papers being lost and seems she cannot get another, will this make a difference?<<< that sounds more than funny. she will have to produce her "tabien ban" - house registration - and has to have a police check. without that there is no marriage. if she has a real ID and a real passport she should be able to get her "tabien ban". if not, there is something smelly going on. Bkkbound04
The tabian ban /family papers will need to be produced when u apply for the visa at the embassy.Be very wary of proceeding to marriage without them. So the girl is gonna have to produce them and the sooner the better. JP

limbo
Hi Peter, We married in BKK with the help of one of these visa/marriage offices, on advice of friends, to keep the red tape for ourselves to a minimum and you're married within hours. Costs about 10.000-12.000Baht including all translations necessary for visa. The translation will take a day or two. You'll find plenty of these offices along the road of the embassy, we used one opposite the Dutch embassy and they where very profesional and efficient and nice as well. There's a few opposite the English embassy as well. The tabien ban is definately needed, without this it's a no go.

think_too_mut
The place is called 'Embassy Square" and there are agencies like that lined up one after another. Walked past it, it's corner of Sukhumvit and...beats me..Wireless Road?
