worst flight

All,

The thread on turbulance got me thinking..... what is your worst fly ever ?

Mine was in 1982, I had to fly monthly to Napels - Italy, only way then was with Lufthansa Brussels - Frankfurt - Genua - Napoli, back 3 days later......

Very stormy weather to land in Genua, and the landing strip is out at sea landing right next to the port, flying in a Fokker biprop.

Next to me 2 pilots from the US 6th fleet rejoinging their ship in Napels.

Took the pilot 3 attemps to land, 3rd try he barely made it on the strip with a big smack, huge sidewinds.

Even the 2 pilots next to me thought it was great flying :)

20 minutes later, same place, same plane, take-off in the same shitty weather, we all made it with green faces :(

Well, take off and landing are the most risky moments....

I have many years of business flights in the wings, worst landing was Lisbon-Brussels on TAP (Take An other Plane)

Approaching runway pilot had problems keeping plane horizontal, were wobbling from left to right, winds probably.

Touched down on left weels, bent over to other side, touched ground with right wings, was affraid wing would hit tarmac.

Then pilot had a tough time staying on the runway whilst reversing engines.

Scary moments. Had a new gf with me, first flight ever, she had no clue landing was everything except smooth :(

About 25 years ago on a TWA flight (Boeing 707) from Colombo via Bombay to Tel Aviv. I was with my gf on a vacation trip from Japan to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and Israel. Shortly before landing the captain informed us that the control lights for the front landing gear do not react, meaning that the landing gear does not work or is not out completely into landing mode. We were informed that the airport was doing all preparations for an emergency landing. The flight cruised for more than an hour over Tel Aviv and the Mediterranean Sea. We were escorted by 2 Israeli jet fighters probably giving instructions to the pilot what to do. Before the actual touch down all passengers were given several whiskeys and then heads down into the pillows and bowing forward for landing. The landing was smooth and normal although we landed on a thick foam carpet (or whatever this is called). After disembarkation all passengers were given a special welcome and driven to a beautiful hotel near the beach where they could stay for 1 day on TWA expenses. A very nice treatment after the fear on board.

Singapore airlines twice! First time I thought "We are going very fast" and the mind readin hostess opposite me says outload, "We're going too fast"

2nd time same thing, landing way too fast, not sure why, both times at changi, each time wings dipped almost to ground as we went side to side.

Worst flight for other reasons. Olympic, just bloody aweful, last time I save $50 on a airfare,

Garuda, Londond to Bali, we landed 9 NINE FUCKING TIMES! every time we landed the plane burst into applause, looking back maybe tht was just encouraging the pilot!

Didn't help the night before I had staid up in London to watch three movies in a row about air crashes and on the way to airport read that Garuda had a really bad safety record!@

  • 2 weeks later...

About 10 years ago, landing in Canada during a snow storm in which all the roads were closed. The storm was so bad, the landing had to be done completely by instruments - nothing outside the plane was visible. No lights, no beacons - no nothing. The plane had to land because it was low on fuel.

My worst flight was back in '95, on the way back from a holiday in Greece. I sat in the back of the plane and while we were taking off, I noticed smoke coming from the back of the plane. One of the stewardesess panicked and came running to the back with a fire extinguisher and the plane was rapidly gaining speed. I couldn't believe we were getting airborne with the plane on fire. The pilot was able to stop the plane though.

Turned out it was just an oven that caught fire, or hadn't been cleaned properly. Scared the shits out of me though!

The rest of this flight was no picknick either. Ths has been the only flight I haven't been offered a drink, not even fucking water!!! I was seriously pissed off because of this. That was my last charter flight ever.

My worst flight ,

flight was good ,landing was bad at Brisbane airport from Melbourne back in 82.We were just about to touch down, maybe 40 feet above the tarmac and you just heard the engines throttle down ,which sounded to far and we hit the deck that hard I thought we were gone.As we hit the tarmac there was one almighty bang and all the oxygen masks dropped in our faces and faaaaaark. ::

all was ok , sky brow

Lets continue.....

Last year BRU - FRA on my way to BKK, flight was ok, approach was ok, 3-4 meter above the tarmac pilot reversed whole process and scrambled up again........

20 minutes and after a safe landing finding out it was a near miss on the runway..... scary :(
