spirit_of_town_hall
The later reports are suggesting ( according to the chief suspects father) that the young couple had run out of money. The boy friend to raise cash was offering to sell his girl friend to the Thais. He then tried to rip off the police man's gun belt to and also to grab the police man's wallet . The policeman then opened fire... I suppose with the only witnesses to the incident dead he has a good defence, I think he needs Chalerm's lawyer. STH And in the interests of saving the kingdom an unneccesary, expensive and predictable trial, he ran over, dragged 150 meters and then plugged the only witness, err... the accomplice, 2 or 3 times in the neck and chest with a .38. Who said justice isn't swift?
soongmak
Yup... I guess it will be hard for the cop to justify two killings. Even if there's truth to the story that the couple ran out of money, were trying to sell her off and then the boy changed his mind, it will be hard for the cop to explain the death of the girl. Damen
This is really fucked up. When I first read the story, I was saddened that 2 people were dead because of some guy's silly pride (it refered to the guy getting upset at people looking at his girfriend and starting a quarrel) It's pretty amazing how you sometimes form an opinion (quite often the wrong one) reading a newspaper. Subsequent versions of the story are even more disturbing. I wonder if there had been no eyewtinesses, if this would have been chaulked up as a murder- suicide between the boyfriend and the girlfriend
Guest lazyphil
Thai police have induldged in the wholesale slaughter of hundreds of Thais in the drug war so maybe this pathetic little c**t thought he'd get his first falang blood. keekwai
Any altercation involving a probably drunk Thai police at 2AM at a cafe is bound to have an unhappy ending. The young tourists likely didn't know better.
cardinalblue
What is the best moral of the story: don't drink with strangers.. don't drink in a foreign land... don't drink with people whose occuaption invlolves possessing a firearm... don't mix drinking and women or just don't drink.... think_too_mut
A colleague of mine knows a local in Kanchanaburi who said the shop/bar owner (the policeman) wanted to have sex with the girl and there the argument started. Had the man tried to sell his gf's services or not he did not know but sex and the subsequent argument were the root cause he said.
changnoi
@cardinalblue I can't comment on this particular case as I know no more than anyone else who has read the papers. While I don't follow all of your 'rules', I have my personal ones: I don't get involved with couples who are having an argument, I wouldn't socialise with Thai policemen. The older I get, the more I see that the abuse of drugs, especially alcohol, are almost always a significant root cause of these incidents.
