MaakSiDa
I've recently heard some (supposedly) insulting words. What do they mean: Kaamok, Haamok, Laamok ...? I asked my Thai girlfriend, but she said that it doesn't mean anyting, just like 'hello'...
khunsanuk
Hi, "Laamok" I guess this one could be 'dirty, disgusting' Sanuk!
jasmine
[color:"red"] just like 'hello'... [/color] She is a good teacher! Like KS said, it means "dirty" and in the sexual context. Definitely not "hello". However, it does not mean as an insulting word at all times. Friends do say such word to a friend who is pre-occupy with sex also. It depends on context and to whom one says the word to. In a sentence talking about someone (not friends), it is an adjective ones use on the persons with the feelings of disgust or disdain, IMO. MaakSiDa
I heard ' Laamok from some low-lifes in Pattaya, the other ones here in Hat Yai. Some ugly old women and some young guys obviously don't like me, as I am the top earner in my Soi with 40,000 baht per month. Also, I guess that for the Thais we Caucasians are all "sex maniacs"... luckyfarang
<<<for the Thais we Caucasians are all "sex maniacs"... >>> LA-MOK(h) is a pure idiom, but the dictionary defines it as lewd, pornographic, obscene. It might also be translated as "horny" THAN-HAA® is another idiom, defined as lust or sexual appetite or craving, might also be translated as "horniness" A phrase often heard is THAN-HAA® LA-MOK(h) which may be approximated as sex maniac, sex fiend. I once heard LA-MOK(h) used when asking a straight massage girl if she had ever had a prurient customer hit on her: KOEI MEE KAEK LA-MOK(h) MAI(h)? (Ever had a lewd/horny customer?) OH said: <<<isn't it similar to the word for bullshitting? something like Kee Mok?>>> KEE(f) MO(h) is a word meaning to bullshit or brag. A more polite word for this is KUI TOH. A more rude word for this is TAW-LEH®
