Sukhumvit
Had an uncle on dad's side, in the RAF in 50's who was in Ceylon and loved it. He never got to go back out East though. Apparently he used to ride a pushbike around the base and came out one day to find a snake curled around his handlebars. An uncle on my mum's side was in the Navy in Malaya/Sinapore just at end of WW2. Not in the camps. Family story was he got a Japanese officer's sword which he brought back although I never saw it and, if he ever did, it probably disappeared into a pawn shop years ago. (Would love to get back out to Malaysia. was there in '96. Quite fancy a trip to the Perhentian Islands, off the north east coast not far from Thailand. Haven't seen them come up on this forum before and wonder what they're like.)
Goodthaigirl
I would say... DEER HUNTER The original score Cavatina gets me every time. Di Nero and Walken were so great ! All the scene in Vietnam was shot here in Bangkok.

And there is even an esteemed board member here who was an extra in that film! But I cannot say who. Maybe he will volunteer the info (no, it wasn't me)... Sukhumvit
That's gotta be Fmac? How could I forget, "The Killing Fields". Amazing movie, wasn't it shot in Hua Hin? (And to think that the guy who wrote it was Bruce Robinson who also wrote "Withnail and I", so no chance of him being typecast as a one trick pony.)
