buffalo_bill
Luke, if your parcels will " large " , they will inevitably be inspected by HM Customs coming from a drug - related area , duty is to be paid anyway. Who will handle this at the UK end . Unless you create large profits on the single item I can't see how this will ever work. During my Ebay-foreplay I came across a guy in Hongkong who does physically ship individual orders to Europe but in batches of several hundred at a time. buffalo_bill
Flashermac, In the very begining of my studies I thought Ebay is a thing for freaks who sell their second hand guitar to somebody. But in reality it is an expensive advertisement platform with unique opportunities to make lots of money , if : You know how to trade Have money to invest The right product At an attractive price In other words, exactly as in real life , no difference. The shattering new experience for me as a life-long hardcore - wholesaler is : selling to consumers means higher margin and they pay in advance. We are currently from zero in September to about 140 shipments per day and whilst I am typing this , I can look at " 29 sales on Sat 26th " . Velly goos. Flashermac
My nephew is making around US$800 a month now on eBay. He says the thing that is keeping him from making more is not having the capital to purchase. (He is still paying back his student loans.) His goal is to be able to quit his full time job in another month or two and just sell on eBay.

Since no one experienced in exporting has commented on actual cost of doing this, i'll give my 2 cents based on a one time experience. Was in BKK and bought a bunch of wood carvings from a shop. Paid 8,000 baht to the shop to ship it for me. That price would cover any order that would fit into a 2 meter by 2 meter shipping container that would cross the pacific on a container ship. Back in the states several weeks later waiting for my order to arrive, I received a call from customs in LA saying that my container has arrived but someone has to walk it thru customs. I was on the east coast of the US. So had to hire a customs broker to get it thru customs. Then had to hire a shipping company to pick it up and transport it via truck across the US. They would not deliver to my door, only to a warehouse 20 miles away from my home. Then had to go pick up the merchandise at the warehouse (was in two wood crates). So the cost of getting thru customs and ground transport to the warehouse near my home was US $550.00 (22,000 baht). If you add the shipping I paid for at the thai end it came to 30,000 baht total shipping and I had to pick it up myself at the warehouse. The merchandise itself had cost 33,000 baht. Obviously any attempt to ship one order at a time to the US will not work. You will have to follow BBill's advice and ship a large quantity to a warehouse in farangland and deliver your individual orders from there. pe7e
There's big money available on ebay if you do it right, I personally know of two board members making money this way. The key is knowing what to sell, and those who do know aren't going to tell you! but from personal experience 70,000 bt a month isn't dificult to achieve PT. If you are after serious money you should get yourself involved in shipping from China, marble kitchen worktops are a current 'HOT' item in the UK as are upmarket shower enclosures with steam jets and inbuilt phones. Massive profits are available if you want to put the effort in. Luckly, 99.9% of people can't see it, or can't be bothered and will come up with a multitude of reasons not to get yourself involved. My advice is don't listen to them and go for it, you don't have much to lose other than your time, the only thing you will get from sitting on your arse is piles. pe7e
'how about simply investing in ebay stocks? ' You're about 5 years too late for that, I wish I'd had the forsite to have invested. Ebay is a huge money machine, which if used corectly can bring massive rewards, but it's not a licence to print money, you need to work smart not hard, ie when considering having a punt on ebay most think 'what can I get to sell' which is fundementaly wrong, you should take the time to research what is in demand, and where? and then devote your efforts to locate a source to supply that market. Two years ago selling Burberry into the Japanese & Taiwanese market was like having your own mint. I had one particular Taiwan customer who purchased Burberry off me so many times I can still remember his name & address unfortunatley nowerdays the vast majority of 'designer goods' being advertised on ebay as 'guaranteed genuine' are in fact FAKES, personally I think this trend will ultimately devalue the ebay brand to little better than a car boot operation
OCgringo
I sell lots of shit on Ebay, mostly original stuff I have rat-holed for years and some stuff I have made for me in Thailand etc. Its not easy to find a product no one else has, An example, I saw some cool stuff in BKK Chinatown , could not find a place to buy it , went to chang Mai last week, asked my friend about it and he knew the source, so I bought one to "ebay" Get back to BKK , log on to Ebay search out the item and GUESS WHAT ? Its for sale from a Brit who lives in Chaing Mai ! and at less them I paid So do you homework, do not buy to much of any one product, Ebay is full of whores who are happy to make a couple bucks and will cut your price to shreads Good luck , it looks easy , Ebay fees will eat you up Any questions , just ask.... Guest
Pe7e, Thinking of this thread and the one about luxury watches... thanks for your very positive input! Some company based in BKK and Chantaburi got very succesfull selling on e bay, and I'm surprised at how many are trying to emulate it. Wonder if many of then are making decent bucks though. Random, trying to make financial sense of his stay in Yangon... But what a pleasant place!
