nkped
Any concerns about scuba the day after taking an ED drug--viagra, cialis or levitra? I know that if it was still causing nasal congestion, that would be a contraindication to diving. Anything else? Other than DAN there may be more expertise on this board on this subject than anywhere else.
lembeh
Limbo is probably the most experienced diver on the board. Maybe PM him (he might miss the thread as "Sbuba" is a bit misleading!!!). -j-
limbo
Hi Josh and nkped, Haven't missed the thread at all, despite trying to disguise it pretty well, but I normally don't take drugs before diving. I'm not sure what is known about this subject, although I supsect there's some exprienced divers out there with knowledge about this subject, but I'm not one of them. Common sense tell me it's probably not a good combination. nkped, you may be better off checking this with DAN actually, if anyone has data on this, I suspect it to be them. lembeh
>but I normally don't take drugs before diving. Think pretty much every med (or drug!) is considered a no no before diving. I did do a fairly comprehensive search on the subject, and could not come us with any recomendation either way. Just does not seem to be anything on it anywhere. I suppose, if I could be arsed, could look up the clearance time from the body. Action is fairly quick, so would think it cleared fairly quick as well, in which case the night before may be no probs. But, as said, better to avoid any meds before diving without explicit statement that its OK. -j-

Guest
the congestion/pressure could drive mucus up into your sinuses and inner ear. probably not a good idea also, depends on who you dive with as to any other problems ( cute girl) ( sorry, couldn't resist putting that in)
lembeh
flying then diving no probs. It diving then flying you wanna watch for! Think most recomend 24 hours, especially after a couple of days of deep/repetative diving. -j-
tomc12
The concern with scuba diving and ED drugs in being able to equalize pressure differences in the sinuses and eustachian tube has two independent variables at play: 1)individual amount of congestion caused by ED drug-varying from little to a lot and 2)depth of dive plus dive time. General guideline: if you are a diver with no problem clearing your ears on descent, then taking some Viagra the night before a dive shouldn't be a problem. Keep the depth of the dive to around 30 feet and certainly if you experience difficulty now on clearing your ears, take it as a warning sign and don't go any deeper.
