Visa on Arrival?

StaggerLee

Recommended Posts

I did a quick search, but could not really find an answer.

Could somebody please direct me to information regarding a tourist VISA on Arrival?

I will have a confirmed round trip ticket in hand.

I've never done it on arrival in Thailand before.

Is it problematic? A long delay? I may not have enough time to get to a Thai Consul before my next 2 month jouney to LOS.

Which country are you from? Some countries can get anywhere from 15 - 60 days on arrival, whereas some (Mexico) need a visa in advance.

How long are you coming for? If you want to stay longer than the time allowed by a visa on arrival, then the consulate can sometimes issue a tourist visa, Australians for example get 30 days on arrival, but a 60 tourist visa from teh embassy.

Unless you are from India and few other countries, you cannot get a visa on arrival. If you are from a long list of mostly western countires, then what you can get is a 30 day visa wavier. Koreans and a couple of others get 90 day visa wavier.

Visa wavier means you don't get a visa, you only get the entry stamp.

If you plan upon staying 60 days on a entry stamp (visa waiver), then you will have to do a "visa run" at the end of 30 days (i.e., leave the country and return again).

Thanks to all. That is the information I was looking for. Much appreciated.

(Although, I HAVE heard rumours you can enter without a t/m card if you stay in Louis' Tavern for a short while, remove a transit sticker, dress up like a katoey baggage handler, and climb over a series of high fences with razor wire. I wonder if that is a good idea?) :)

It's 4/5ths of fuck-all, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs MFA has a slightly different list for 'visa exemption' and 'visa on arrival' --

Iceland has been added to the TOURIST VISA EXEMPTION list.

Estonia

Latvia

Liechtenstein

Lithuania

Slovakia

Slovenia

- have been added to the TEMPORARY TOURIST VISA: VISA ON ARRIVAL list

basically, people from these countries are not able to show up at the airport, and obtain a 60 day tourist VISA, right?

Yes, as I said, you get 30 days just by showing up. NOBODY is able to show up and get a 60 tourist visa at the airport.

You want more days? Then you:

a) get a visa outside of the country before you come

or

B) leave the country after 30 days and come back and get another 30 day stamp (in theory you can do this forever, but in practice they get cranky after about six times). Do a search on the phrase "visa run" on this board.

Quite simple. Farang baa, think too mutt! :D
