Nervous_Dog
Mate went to Bangkok Bank, Soi 8 yesterday, opened in 10 minutes, 2 ATM cards, dead easy. No work permit, just passport and hotel address. DOG
dddave
I did the same last week at the Phra Khanong branch of Bangkok Bank, also no problem. Got a free, cheapo watch in the deal.
Flashermac
The work permit requirement is idiotic, since it was thrown out shortly after it began some 6 or 7 years ago. But many banks will still insist on seeing one. When that happens, go to another branch and try there. It is a hit or miss nowadays. TIT
barflyrex
Gday Guys. I will be moving to Thailand in Feb and will need a bank account. If I turn up at say, the bangkok in soi 8 with a few grand cash, will these be a problem? Will they just convert it to baht and open the account so I can use the ATM card? Is it that simple? thanks for any advice Rex
..
Pretty much that simple. I prefer Kasikorn Bank over Bangkok Bank for their business service, but that is up to you. If going to K-Bank, there is a large branch at the corner of Suk & soi 33 that is farang friendly and has good hours. Cheers, SD
Nervous_Dog
I only recomend Bangkok Bank as it is the one that I know always works for mates. My K Bank account which I also have ffor work (great minds) was opened near Patpong and they DO want to see as flash said a work permit. Everytime I sent money somewhere thay again wanted to see it. ..
K-Bank branch I mentioned never asks for that stuff IME, even when doing xfers in or out of over the magic amount of US$20K. YMMV. Cheers, SD
Rex7777
I'm thinking of opening an account at Bangkok Bank because they also have a branch in New York City. I can arrange for a monthly deposit to the NYC branch, and they will supposedly arrange for that money to be transferred to the Bangkok Bank in Thailand without any kind of wire fee. Or at least that's how it's supposed to work. Rex
Bangkoktraveler
I doubt you can do it without a wire transfer fee, but if it is possible, let me know.
cavanami
Do any of the Thai banks have internet access so you can monitor your account?
