Hmmm. My fault for mentioning France.

Right.

I spend quite a bit of time in France so I am familiar with the French people's deep desire to integrate African immigrants into French society.

Do you also think the trouble in Sydney is just a question of social inequality?

"If a descent level of education and standard of living was made ?mandatory? to all of society, reactions to injustice would be different. "

Prosal,

how do you make "mandatory" a certain standard of living?? France is already rigged by the stinky feeling everyone is ownd a confortable living even without doing shit. Lots of lazy buggers and a very costly social welfare and worker protection scheme .

Not sure where u get the feeling the riots were about "all colours, all religion", seems to me a large majority of the people involved were of african ascent. Racism is very strong in France and the gap with those guys and the rest of society is astonishing. They actually do face very serious barriers to go mainstream but then those who've been here for a couple of generation didn't achieve much good while other immigrants are taking great advantage of France's opportunities to go up the social ladder.

Different schools might offer different opportunities but they're still available and free for the most. I doubt many countries are offering better educational opportunities to the needy than France. The people facing failure shouldn't forget to look at the mirror when they're looking for a cause.

Besides about the "Lebs" in Australia, what does it have to do with actual lebanese, especially when it's said there are mostly christian lebanese living there? They form a very entrepreneurial minority in France and are rather succesful. Heard from many sources the muslim lebanese are beeing extremely succesful in Africa so what went wrong in Australia or is it actually not much to do with lebanese??

Anyway hope we soon get some frenzy footage from the events and some guys will be kind enough to upload it.

Random, give the world a cage

Its the Lebanese, and I believe that many of the 'problem children' are indeed Christian. It just seems like a huge culture clash - if you are bought up believing that any woman who wears a bikini in a public place (including the beach) is a whore, and that proving your manhood is about fighting and fucking, all else seems to follow. Mix that in with the 90's rise of the 'gangsta rapper' culture, and you've got a disproportionate number of aggro young guys in pumped up imports cruising the beaches looking for 'action'. Not all Lebanese fit this stereotype, but there are enough of them in Sydney to really get under people's skin, and they seem to have very little fear of the law.

Some of these guys may well be Turks, or Arabs from other middle-eastern countries, but the vast majority are ethnic Lebanese. I have a simple solution - make it illegal for anyone under 40 to have a mobile phone ::

So now a lot of people will be watching to make sure the anti-riot laws are applied fairly....plenty of blame to go round I think.....

Parliament recalled for riot laws vote. Dec 13th. 2005

The New South Wales Government has announced tough new powers to crack down on racially motivated violence in Sydney's south.

There will be a special sitting of Parliament on Thursday to pass the new laws, aimed at stopping riots which erupted on Sunday.

New South Wales police say carloads of men attacked people and vandalised cars and shops last night in several southern suburbs.

Premier Morris Iemma says the new measures will allow police to lock down and take command of an area, enabling them to close roads, search people and confiscate vehicles.

They will also be able to declare temporary alcohol-free zones, and shut down any premises to prevent large scale disorders.

The presumption of bail will also be removed for the offences of riot and disorder, with the penalty for such offences increased from five to 15 years in jail.

Mr Iemma says the people involved in the riots have declared a war which the Government will not allow them to win, and he says they are ruining the city's image.

Nothing ecenomic in these Aussie riots, the Lebanese are quite wealthy, Christian Lebanese end to be more problems than the Muslim groups hstoriacally, they played a LARGE role in hard drug importation and prostitution in Sydney.

That said, most of the violence on Cronulla seemed to be Muslim Lebanese, remember these two groups hate each other as much as they hate anyone else.

Substitute "France" with "U.S.A." and you've hit the nail on the head !

"Social" and "economic injustice" are just buzz words coined by socialists. Could just as easily refer to the "victims" as non-conforming parasites.

I just don't buy the right wing populist CRAP pointing the "evil muslims", "evil blacks" or "evil migrants" during the incidents in France. It was ONLY frustrated teenagers, of ALL colors, ALL origins and ALL religious belongings in revolt against their social exclusion.

Period.

what evidence to you have for this? Are you suggesting that all the film footage and eye witness reports were fabricated or biased? I don't recall any coverage describing the rioters as 'evil' but I do recall all of them saying the vast majority of the rioters were of north african descent. Where were all the poor white french, chinese and the rest rioting then? There may have been a few young joiners on who were not of algerian muslim origin, but that hardly makes it a case of all origins and all religions. I think it's a case of wishfull thinking to say that it was.

I would say to a large extent those involved exclude themselves by their belief sytem and might be happier living elsewhere where they might not feel so 'excluded'.
