MaiLuk-

I may be making it sound worse than it is - you may very well be right.

Would be curious to know if other posters with your experience level feel the same as you.

There was just an air of desperation that I have not felt before but will be the first to admit that I am not on that stretch at that time very often even though that is where I live.

Perhaps if I had been out looking for fun rather than concentrating on food with my mind on business I may have felt different.

himitsu could it be you who has changed?

I give MaiLuk credit for painting a picture exactly as i remember sukhumvit late night activity. Yet let thee not forget what is happening there at night.

You mention an 'air of desperation' and isn't that kind of expected? Perhaps the gleem of the nightlife has diminished returns as one 'gets used' to things clearing way for the ugliness of humanity to surface...

...or maybe you just had a shitty night?

It could be me and I am more than willing to be corrected or have something I write clarified if someone thinks I am wrong.

Cetainly do not want to put anyone off giving it a try as everyones mileage will vary.

My Sukhumvit street time is from the days when you had to go through the toilet at Thermae to find your companion and in the morning when you woke up the dishes in the sink would be done.

It also could have been what I was wearing as well the other night/morning.

Not sure if I have really changed or not though.......I know that all of us need two Viagra and a Ciallis jelly and take three hours to finish.

Right?

I think it a question of whether one is a local (here with a family and a good job) or a tourist/sexpat. Those in the first group will agree with Himitsu, while those in the latter will side with Mai Luk.

Both see the same thing, but one group has a more vested interest in what goes on there. Face it, tourist guys...would you want a scene like lower Suk anywhere near your home? Be honest!

I thought not.

Cheers,

S-first group-D

As someone living in Londons East End, with some of the worst crime and murder rates in Europe, Sukhumvit is a rather pleasant place at any time, day or night. City for City, BKK is preferable but I would'nt choose to live forever in either.

I was just about to post something simmilar to your post.

I hail from a pretty rough English Midlands city. I used to go out as a kid (16/17) right up till mid twenties pretty much most weekends. If you stayed out past 10:30pm (and who dosent?) the town centre was barking mad. Past 2am.... dodge city. Fights everywhere, slappers in moody high heels and trashy clothes puking up, fights breaking out every 10 minutes... sometimes one on one, but mostly 5 on 5... police vans everywhere, and any guy who wasnt scrapping limped home drunk with half a kebab down his armani shirt before trying to kick a shop window through with his scruffy rockport boots. All in all, a shit hole. Straight out of a 'Pulp' song.

Maybe this is why i never see lower suk at 3am as a dangerous place to be. Just lots of drunks, talking loudly. It could be a hell of a lot worse, IMO. I have read simmilar stuff about lower suk on this board in the past, and so i allways make a point (if im sober) of looking out for the trouble and degeneration on lower suk whenever Im there late just to see if i am wrong (say, nip out for some food after staying in all night)....but i never, ever see anything that comes close to 'dangerous place to be'. If im drunk, the place seems like the garden of eden to me.

Where I live (UK) there's a road nearby that used to have lots of FL hanging around. It's all been cleared up now and you only find the most desperate crack whores out late at night.

If I wasn't single then I suppose I'd find it an improvement but I miss those girls. Didn't take up what was offered often but chatted to a few and they had a lot of interesting stories to tell.

Progress I guess but it makes the trip home more dull.

Cheers

I'm in total agreeance. i come from a small city in Australia (adelaide) and if you walk down any of the main streets the chances of getting beaten up are very very high.

the city late at night is full of aboriginals looking to fuck you up just because you're white and they're black and my mate and i had two asian guys who were half our sizes actually stop us and try and pick a fight with us even though we'd never seen them before and were not even looking at them.

ive walked down sukhumvit and around nana plaza at 4am plus and had absolutely no problems. i never feel threatened in this country and ive been in some dodgy areas.

Yep, im in agreance of your agreance! Most of the countries that the readers of this forum come from probably have towns/cities close by that resemble the above described. Suk seems harmless to me.... just a few idiots about with loud mouths.

By the way, for the record i was describing a night out at the weekend in my city... not me! Plus i think it has calmed down a fair bit now.

I feel kind of relieved by everyones posts.

Nobody felt necessary to confirm the obvious which made me feel quite good.

Now I know that everyone else who posted also need two Viagra and a Ciallis jelly and take three hours to finish.
