chuck6660
Fiance' and I are looking into buying 7 "rai" of land in Buriram. How big is a "rai" compared to say...an acre of land? Is a 7 "rai" parcel large enough for a small farm?
khwaimaisabai
Hi chuck, 1 rai is 0.3954 acres or 0.16 hectares. Try this: http://www.convert-me.com/en/ Khwai

shygye
7 rai large enough? Not enough for rice, but raising frogs, chickens, or crickets it is plenty.
Nervous_Dog
Years ago my cousin told me, when I asked him about his wheat farm, how much land do you need to feed a family, given the property was 4500 acres at the time, and I was just off working on a cattle place that was measured in Sq Miles. He told me about 10 acres would keep a family ed and stocked, No idea where he got the figure from but it's pretty acurate, even in isaan. But if a hobby farm, a nice large enough area, plant a lot of native trees and flowers to make it very nice in fact, a small pond for fishing, and you have yorself a nice home on 7 rai DOG
cardinalblue
I believe one acre is roughly 2.5 rai CB

Nervous_Dog
Depends where, Sukhumvit, Aree, Nonthaburi, Chaing Rai, or Udon Nowhere? Even remote places vary widely in pricing given access to water, roads etc. I paid 140 000 for 70 rai, very cheap, previous owner now wants to buy back, I doubt at my price though! chuck6660
Thanks all for the info. My fiance' (getting married in early April) brother told her of this parcel, 7 rai for 300,000 bht. He said the owners are in need of money and may go down in price. The parcel is on a "road." We are going to check out the land when we get back to Thailand in two weeks. Our plan is to build a house and have a cow or two and some chickens...sounds like fun. Is anyone familiar with Buriram? Any sound advice?
