But when in Isaan that may be lost on the rice farmers wife. I did just recently repay a favor by gifting a packaged VCD Karaoke collection of Suntaraporn [classic era Thai] jazz. It's a bit outspoken but he has a point. They may be nice enough types but on the other hand they may just see you as a cash cow and you don't want expectations to get too high on the first meeting. Ask the girl for her ideas. Failing that, a bottle of JW as people said and a crate of beer. That's friendly without fawning. If you want to get them something unusual, try a few farang spirits or beers that they may not have tried before. (got the answer but it will just make board members laugh, -> she wants her daughter to leave the bar and have a happy life with a decent man........) So I am still looking for a decent gift.
