are immigration officials flerxible?

I almost always fly Northwest Airlines to Bangkok, so I arrive sometime between 23:00 and after midnight. The couple of times I've arrived about midnight and gone through immigration about 12:20-12:30, they still gave me a 30 day visa which started the day before. That was never a problem until now. I leave for Bangkok on August 26 and arrive late on the 27th. I leave Bangkok on October 26, which is 61 days after my arrival. If I wait until after midnight to pass through immigration, can I get the official to give me a 30 day visa, starting August. 28? If not, I have to do 2 visa runs instead of one or go to the airport and ask for a 10 day extention or pay the 500 baht fine (which I doubt if I would take the chance, even though I leave on October 26 at 6:00 A.M.). Any suggestions?

O.K., since I don't know how to edit my post on the new board, I see that I mis-spelled "flexible." Blame it on my one finger typing, with a broken right arm, which happens to be the reason for visiting Bangkok (and Bangkok Nursing Hospital)at this time (besides broken bone, I have dislocated shoulder and possible ligament damage).

IMO, if I were you, I would plan to do a visa run or two. The immi people are pretty much stone faced and robotic like.

The casino bus to Poi Pet, runs you a total of 1100 Baht, that includes the $20 USD for the Cambo visa, plus a free buffet lunch!

Also, and please post if any results, can the BKK hospitaldo sonething in the way of a medical visa extension? Would be nice to know if they could.

I know that there is at least one hospital that will, Bumrungrad, and thats one question that I'll ask someone at BNH. I wonder if I would be arrested if I offered the immigration officer 500 baht to stamp the correct date on the 30 visa paper?

I would offer a "warm smile" and try to explain the need for a medical visit, but no $$$, as it is pretty much in the open at the counters.

You could ask to see the officer in charge, maybe in the office, where "business" could be conducted.

From what I am aware, visa extension for medical reasons is only given if your condition means that you are "Not Medicaly Fit to Travel"

One way around it is to spend one night outside Thailand when you make your visa run, the deals at the casino hotel in poipet are changing all the time and I am sure that the Company that Cavanami is mentioning can arrange this for you.

Second option is to get an extension at extension at the immigration office Soi Suanplu. You can get 30 days extension on a 60 Day Tourist visa and 15 days on a 30 day Visa on Arrival. If following this route, it would be better to get the extension on your first 30 Day VOA and make the visa run at 45 days since they may get a bit funny about extending a second consecutive VOA.

I don't think that I was clear about the situation. to get this ticket, I used FF miles on NWA. The only dates that they had were August 26 departure and October 26 return, which means I will be in Thailand for 61 days. If any surgery has to be done to my shoulder, it will be early in my stay, so I will be able to leave for the first 30 day extention with no problem. The question that I have is, although I arrive around 11:45 P.M. on Aug. 27, by the time that I go through immigration, it will be Aug. 28. In past arrivals to LOS, I noticed the immigration officers don't update the 30 day visa at midnight. What are the chances of grtting them to update it after midnight so I only have to make one visa run?

Even if they do stamp the correct date for after midnight, you will still face the same problem,

28 August is Day One

26 September is Day Thirty Visa Run

Return on Same Day

26 September is Day one

25 October is Day 30.

So 2 Visa runs or an extension are still necessary.

Thanks for the explanation. If I had the time, I'd apply for the 60 day visa. I'll probably go for the 10 day extention around October 20. I do have a round trip ticket to go to Phnom Penh around October 7 for a week that I wasn't going to use but maybe I'll go there for a day instead of the week.
