elef
Bangkok Post Today Link KOREA TESTS NUCLEAR WEAPON Seoul (dpa) - North Korea has followed through on its threat and announced Monday that it successfully conducted an underground nuclear test, according to the North's official Korean Central News Agency. If the claim by North Korea is confirmed, it will become the eighth country to not only possess the world's most destructive weapon but to admit openly to doing so. "Our science research section has safely and successfully conducted an underground nuclear test on October 9," said the KCNA report. South Korea said the country's state intelligence agency detected a 3.58 magnitude seismic tremor in the North's remote area of North Hamgyeong Province at around 10 a.m. (0100 GMT, 8 a.m. Thailand time Monday morning), reported South Korean Yonhap news agency. There was no danger including leaks of radioactivity, said the KCNA reports. South Korea's President Roh Moo Hyun called an emergency meeting of the responsible ministers in Seoul to discuss countermeasures. North Korea had announced it would carry out a test last Tuesday. Julian2
That's about the strength of it Flashy. Has the test been confirmed by the earthquake detecting people? Maybe they just filled a mine shaft with several hundred tons of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil.

cavanami
there are other countrys with crazy presidents sitting on nuclear weapons, so why North Korea can not have also their own bomb? same same The crazy guy in North Korea has been hiding behind the Chinese for years! Now, China can not control this guy and that is a problem. Like a rabid dog, he will have to be put down and the quicker the better...but I would lay this on China to do, as they help to invent this guy. Old Hippie
Despite any and all anti American sentiment on this board, or in genmerel, or any anti western sentiment the Chinese might have, this is one mess they would be well advised to handle themselves, and quickly. Their best interests, and those of the world fail, if this guy has a bomb...more so if he uses it or sells it to "terrorists."
elef
I'm not really convinced that they have a working nuclear bomb - yet. If you see it from the north korean POV getting nuclear weapons is the logical (and only) answer to the threat from USA to move against North Korea after Iraq. If the chinese government will start a war against an other communist country they risk the communism in their own, also letting the US to act is also impossible.
