Khun_Kong
Ditto Bangkoktraveler's comments. Preakho's knowledge of SEA cultures and respect for the working girls is very acute. On the other hand, some of his sunglasses and shoe selections are a bit B-52's. And I'm talkin' Kate, not Fred

thalenoi
I knew this guy thalenoi, he lives in the village and I always wave to his wife and little girl. He made it very plain that there was nothing threatening about this and gave me a wai when he left. I'd rather give them a look at my passport and a photo voluntarily than have to do it under duress. The Thai police are only too willing to take people down to the station to get their photo taken. The same police man came with the same purpose to visit an other farang in the village. Seems they are lining us up. Not like the Gestapo yet, but that might come some day

Bangkoktraveler
One of most misquoted citations of the Holocaust is the [color:red]"confession of guilt" by Pastor Martin Niemoeller. According to his widow, Sybil Niemoeller, these are his exact words: [color:blue][color:white]xxxxxxxxxxFirst they came for the Communists [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxand I did not speak out - [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxbecause I was not a Communist. [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxThen they came for the Socialists [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxand I did not speak out - [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxbecause I was not a Socialist. [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxThen they came for the trade unionists [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxand I did not speak out - [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxbecause I was not a trade unionist. [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxThen they came for the Jews [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxand I did not speak out - [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxbecause I was not a Jew. [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxThen they came for me [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxand there was no one left [color:white]xxxxxxxxxxto speak out for me. Nervous_Dog
Thank you Bangkok Traveller, these are words I was looking for, but couldn;t remember the mans name or exact words. Often when people complain of America bashing I think of these words, because I do believe as flawed America is, it does or did have amazing potential, It is so democratic, the people have more power than anywhere else except maybe switzerland, yet they fail to see it. You can vote for your local police, public prosicutor etc. These are offices of incredible importance that are reliant upon the wisdom of the local people. I was pleased to read in a book about America, with the writer saying something similar, "Run for local office, do it, you'll be surrised because you may just win" An interesting dicotomy, a land where people are afraid to speak out, and where they can vote for so many important public offices. luckyfarang
I find this a little surprising since I know Preahko can speak Thai well. Must have been the black outfit. Soi 13, isn't that the one with the Ambassador Hotel? I know 7/1 is a little slice of Sodom, but don't recall anything specific to 13. I guess it wasn't soi specific, just the farang ghetto in general. But Preahko's experience is different than the others in two ways: he was body searched, and was stopped on the street, not staked out at home.
