Newt Gingrich, "Bush waging phony war on terrorism"

Several years ago Bush tried to prove measurable progress on the 'war on terror'. At the time he used a CIA annual report that tabulated worldwide terrorism to show things were getting better. Then it was discovered the report was flawed and terrorism had actually become much worse. That was the last I've heard of Bush trying to cite overall progress being made. Now you hear a lot of "things are going to get worse before they get better"! It is just a spin on the fact it is a failed strategy and they are too proud to admit what they have done is wrong.

Legalizing drugs would go a long way in fighting terrorism. Illegal drugs give any terrorists easy access to unlimited cash. The US recently admitted it is unrealistic to wipe out poppy plantations in just Afghanistan that they sort of think they control. Despite all their efforts, biggest and most lucrative crop ever is coming to market.

Point is though, we are fighting a so called war where we have to be told its over.

Could the allies say we're still fighting a war after Nazi Germany and the Japanese empire fell?

Its dangerous territory when the people have to be told when its over. It gives the government a lot of license and too much leeway for this civil libertarian.

>belief in god in the UK is around 35-40% according to a BBC programme a few years ago<

is that 35% extremist as is the case with 35% of Americans? The Kangaroos are from Iraq & the grand canyon was formed by noah's flood & the planet is 6k old sorta of American nut cases?

(& Israeli, David gave them Zion)

I think getting the nut case religious radicals out of the UK was part of what king George had in mind with 'new world settlements'.

>Did we ever win the war on drugs?<

I just realized the escalating cost of oil parallels the escalating costs of drugs, just 40 years later..

& the common denominator is dopey republicans ..

simply explain to republicans that drug cartels are kinda like a nicer & softer Halliburton

..& that the cartels were early globalists' conglomerates with off shore headquarters to avoid stupid US legalities.

course, the rebpulicans are bid-ness men ..

so we explain that the cartel lobby could offer some nice 'party favor contributions' for the republican's boy toys.

Ross Peroit nailed NAFTA & the export of US jobs.

Ross' verbalized the solution: stop nafta & shut down the maquiladoras.

Ross was pushed out of the '96 debate / campaign by the dims & dopes.

GM posted a profit last quarter .. as it closed factories & pushed $25 q hour semi-skilled union workers to $8. at Mickey Dees.

funny part is that you might need to be smarter to work at Mickey's than working on a production assembly line.

>where are the plans that these people can and will put into effect???<

Like General Powell said, we have now bought it.

& is not a war in the traditional sense .. there is no one to fight, no one to defeat, no way to win.. what is to win,

bush picked a fight, with no one to really fight & nothing acceptable to win ..( control of the Persian Gulf is the logical extension.)

to me the prime issue is how did we get into meso-potamia.. because we cannot get out.. by April '08 we will need to reinstate the draft to maintain troop levels .. or redefine in / out of country time

Stupid mistakes are often blamed for the mess.. but honest mistakes means listening to experts in their field of endeavor ..

anyone who has disagreed .. universally .. with their ideological platform has been fired or dismissed.. CIA, Treasury, pentagon, justice, surgeon general ..

not random or occasionally .. every time /anyone not of their ideological view of the world spoke up he was dismissed.

1.Degree of Difficulty. The Pentagon's mid east specialist predicted everything that has happened. Civil war, increased iranian influence, 200,000 troops 10 years.

he nailed it & He was immediately fired.

& the Cheney Rumsfeld war of months became the line & anyone who disagreed was dismissed as not knowledgeable, like mid east experts.

2. Expense. An under secretary of state under Paul O'Neil (Lindsey I think) predicted a high expense, but nothing like this ..

& he was fired.

Bush political appointees were put into place & listened to Wolfie's BS the line became we would make money on the war.

& paul ONeil resigned..

(Secretary Oneill pointed out to bush on an open mic that the penalty for 1 gm of crack was more than the penalty for stealing millions under bush's tough corruption laws for Kenny boy & other Enron Execs.)

3. Intelligence: Every thing from the Niger Yellow Cake to trailers w/ WMD production was openly objected to by career CIA types who were over ruled by political types.

Cheney still spouts war intel 'every commission' reported was a wrong & was widely reported as wrong pre invasion.

There was legitimate objection to every pre war reason for war .. & the expert objectors have been right 100% of the time

( & Like NASA & the EPA & the Surgeon General & the justice department .. political appointees changing the reports / careers of professionals)

Conspiracy.. no ..

but government bought & paid for by special interests & politically beholden to extremist ideologues.

IMHO: amoral .. no sense of right / wrong & ideological extremist ..

I include not just this administration but the entire right wing of the republican party
