Flashermac
It's not my country, so I've got no business commenting on it.

Palatkik
Hi, Good on them for going against this seriously outdated custom. Sanuk! Couldn't agree more. Anyone know the origins or reasoning behind this curious custom? What does standing up for King and country have in common with being subjected to the latest Simpson's or Transformers movie with super sized Coke and popcorn in hand?? khunsanuk
Hi, My guess? Another way of allowing the government to keep the people in line. Sanuk!
pe7e
I think it's more of a sign of respect to the head of state i.e. the monarch. When I was a young lad, the same thing happened in cinemas in the UK, all shows finished with a short film of QE2 sitting on her horse with the national anthem playing, some people stood to attention, most just f****d off home. khunsanuk
Hi, "I think it's more of a sign of respect to the head of state i.e. the monarch." Would make sense... IF that head of state was present. Sanuk!
Zaad
Fully agree KS. However, I wouldn't want to embarrass my wife by remaining seated and show any disrespect to these customs she was brought up with (she does have her thoughts about this particular one though) so more out of respect to her I do stand up.
