Flashermac
Interesting comment - and most likely the truth: "BY LEIAKAT AT 01/15/08 10:29 AM "Tom Cruise is not as big in Scientology as people think, he is mainly a poster boy. The people how run things really don't believe the crap they are spouting, Cruise does. My dad dated for years the daughter of one of the 'founders' and was exposed to a lot about its inner workings. It is a money making venture that required payments to be enlightened, the founders never believed in it. Uniting culture and bring peace - only if you have a nice bank account." Steve
Religion is something that mankind will always have. You can try and ban it but it seems in mankind's make up to believe in something greater than itself or a need to explain something it can't. Even in this day of science, facts and reason. In the old USSR where it wasn't healthy to be involved in religion, people risked their lives to continue practicing it and after the USSR ended , even with a few generations of people who grew up where there was no religion, churches, synagogues and the like sprung up like wildfire after the communism ended. Its part our make up as people. Addiction groups even incorporate some sort of faith in a higher power as part of its process to alter abuse. So, in a sense Tom Cruise is right, as religion as played a role in helping stopping or reducing drug and alcohol addiction abuse. That said, religion will always be abused by those who practice it. Any 'institution' be it religion, government, etc. will be abused by the people in it. Its also part of our make up.
Central Scrutinizer
Humanity really is a mess. Reading all this stuff, it makes you realise just how many gullible simple-minded folks there are. Kinda depressing, nothing is going to alter this mass waste of time and energy on bullshit. We should be reaching for the stars, instead we create distractions based on imaginations and the desire for power and wealth. Religion is nothing more than a business, separating fools from their money. Well said sir. If only there was a shot we could give at birth to keep people from believing in this baloney the world would be a much better place and far more advanced I would think. Flashermac
Nah, they'd just substitute politics for religion. That's essentially what communism became.
