You know in the USA you can hear someone and know they are from the south or from New York City. Is there an obvious equivalent of that in Australia? Can occasionally, but it's easier to tell other things like the kind of education or whether from city or country etc. Many children of immigrants sound like their parents as well (thinking how the Arabs speak in Sydney). Adelaide people often sound slightly more English (London in particular). Often find Melbourne people pronounce the name of their city slightly differently.
