chuckwoww
I think Clinton and Obama are going to have to make some kind of deal eventually. If they turn on each other the whole Democratic party will lose.
Steve
The national election is and always will be about who gets the middle. The independents, centrists. People like me who have voted for Republicans and Democrats (and Libertarians when the Dem or Repub choices are just too bad as in '04). The base is the base. About 40% will always vote Dems, about a third to 40% will vote Republican and that middle 20% has to be won over. Some Dems will vote Republican if properly motivated (i.e. the Reagan Dems in the '80s). Republicans rarely cross over, they just stay home. chuckwoww
'Real' conservatives don't seem happy with McCain. About the only thing they like about him is the war talk. Maybe the Republican Party is becoming more liberal?
Flashermac
It long had a liberal wing, just as the Dems had a conservative wing. Then the "true believers" tried to run the others out of the parties. I remember rightwing flyers when I was a uni student that questioned if Barry Goldwater was really a conservative. If they turn on each other the whole Democratic party will lose. I can see Obama accepting less than a whole hog, but not Ms Hill. She seems to think the White House belongs to her by divine right. Still, I wonder if Obie would be wise to run on a ticket with Hillsie. The whole mess of Clinton scandals might become a burden on him, just as they were for Algore.
