Flashermac
<< Castro's supporters admired his ability to provide a high level of health care and education for citizens while remaining fully independent of the United States. But his detractors called him a dictator whose totalitarian government systematically denied individual freedoms and civil liberties such as speech, movement and assembly. >> Hey, nobody's perfect
Torneyboy
Our correspondent says, Mr Castro will leave a mixed legacy - both friend and foe recognise him as an iconic leader and major figure in the post-war era. Julian2
But the United States, bent on blocking Fidel Castro's plans for his younger brother to succeed him, built a detailed plan in 2005 for American assistance to ensure a democratic transition on the island of 11.2 million people after his death. No doubt this includes the Mafia getting their casinos back.

Fidel
You know, after years of US aggression, in the form of terror attacks, sanctions and deliberate spraying of crops with diseases, I'm surprised Cuba isn't as badly messed up and repressive as North Korea. To hell with America. Who are they to punish the Cuban people for choosing their own form of government?

Fidel
Well Phil. Your government shouldn't have sent your troops/planters over to steal our land and resources and starve us to death, now should they? Were you happy with the Apartheid state your people were running in my country? The phenomenon of suffering from terror attacks as a result of a government's actions elsewhere is known as 'blowback'. It is happening to the US right now. The attacks carried out in Britain by the IRA pale in comparison to the injustices piled upon the Irish over centuries of Imperialist Pig-dog British Oppression.
