It's funny (ironic, NOT hahaha) how the Republicans love the fact that a crusader for truth in big biz is now gone. Afterall, big biz are the champion welfare queens. Nevermind the poor "nigger" in the Cadillac.

Makes ya go "Hmmmmm." Well, not really. It was bound to happen.

Anyone else notice how close this is to Citizen Kane? The only difference is Kane's political career was ruined by a sex scandal *before* he was elected New York governor.

Like Spitzer, Kane is accused of setting back the "sacred cause of reform" by decades.

Cheers,

SD -- Rosebud...

Full text of Spitzer's resignation speech.

"In the past few days I have begun to atone for my private failings with my wife, Silda, my children, and my entire family. The remorse I feel will always be with me. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for the love and compassion they have shown me. From those to whom much is given, much is expected. I have been given much: the love of my family, the faith and trust of the people of New York, and the chance to lead this state. I am deeply sorry that I did not live up to what was expected of me. To every New Yorker, and to all those who believed in what I tried to stand for, I sincerely apologize.

I look at my time as governor with a sense of what might have been, but I also know that as a public servant I, and the remarkable people with whom I worked, have accomplished a great deal. There is much more to be done, and I cannot allow my private failings to disrupt the peopleâ??s work. Over the course of my public life, I have insisted, I believe correctly, that people, regardless of their position or power, take responsibility for their conduct. I can and will ask no less of myself. For this reason, I am resigning from the office of governor. At Lt. Gov. Patersonâ??s request, the resignation will be effective Monday, March 17, a date that he believes will permit an orderly transition.

I go forward with the belief, as others have said, that as human beings, our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. As I leave public life, I will first do what I need to do to help and heal myself and my family. Then I will try once again, outside of politics, to serve the common good and to move toward the ideals and solutions which I believe can build a future of hope and opportunity for us and for our children. I hope all of New York will join my prayers for my friend, David Paterson, as he embarks on his new mission, and I thank the public once again for the privilege of service."

What a fuckin' hypocrite. Prosecutions of prostitutes and their clients while being a seasoned punter yourself. :susel:

One expects a certain amount of hypocricy and double-standards from any government but this guy is an absolutely astonishing hypocrite. His whole image, his whole brand, was as Mr. Clean, the relentless moralistic crusader for good and right. He didn't just prosecute people, he publicly destroyed and humiliated them. People complained of his vindictiveness and his heavy-handed tactics and he just claimed that curruption was so harmful and that he was so alone in his public-mindedness and ethical purity that allowances should be made. When the fall came not one soul reached out a hand to him. He is completely finished in public life.

Well, I think at least Suadum has sympathy for him.

Anybody get a comment from Hillary? After all, as a NY senator, I'd think she'd at least say it's been a "vast right wing conspiracy" or something.

Hillary did come out with a statement today expressing concern and sympathy for "the family" with no mention of the crime or the criminal. Hillary wants this to go away ASAP. It's bad for the Democratic brand and bad for her in particular since Spitzer was a declared superdelegate for her and more importanly his arrogance and horndoggedness can only remind America of what it was like to have a certain hillbilly in the White House back in 1998, the year that every schoolchild learned what oral sex was.

Hillary says she from Illinois ... or is it Arkansas ... and has never even heard of the guy.

Indictments Loom For Spitzer

NEW YORK (CBS) â?? Eliot Spitzer's resignation Wednesday spares him and the state the spectacle of an impeachment, but what about an indictment?

...

Experts say "Client 9" could face the following charges:

* [color:red]Money laundering for trying to conceal the source and recipient of financial transactions.

* [color:red]Tax evasion, if he was a knowing party to an all-cash business that wasn't filing taxes.

* [color:red]Violation of the Mann Act for paying for the trip from New York to D.C. by the call girl known as "Kristen."

* [color:red]Misuse of state resources, if he used his state-issued credit card for hotels or meals with prostitutes as well as if he was being protected by State Troopers during his dalliances.

* And finally, [color:red]soliciting prostitution.
