Local Police are currently enforcing a 2am closure of bars in accordance with instructions from Central Government in Bangkok who would like to see all late night entertainment venues around Thailand close at this time. The Policy appears not to affect the closure of open air bars such as beer bars which are not being closed and remain open sometimes around the clock. How long this closure policy will remain in force is unknown. Over the weekend, Police Lieutenant General Jeatanagorn, the Commander of Region 2 Police conducted a brief inspection of bars along the entire stretch of Walking Street to ensure that bars were closing at 2am and patrons were aged over 20 in accordance with the law. Link 2am Bar Closures expected to continue following 2 meetings chaired by Deputy Provincial Governor. In the last 24 hours two meetings have taken place at the Alcazar Theater in North Pattaya and Pattaya City Hall regarding Late Night Entertainment Venues. Both meetings were chaired by Khun Komsan, Deputy Governor of Chonburi Province. Delegates at both meetings included bar owners and managers who were told that Bars would have to close at 2am from now on in accordance with regulations set by the Interior Ministry. The delegates were also told to ensure that patrons are aged 20 years and over and that illegal drug usage does not take place in their respective venues. Police Colonel Nopadon who was also present at both meetings urged bar owners and managers to cooperate with the Police to ensure that drug and other anti-social activities inside bars and other entertainment complexes does not take place. I'm usually on my way home by 0200. But sometimes it is fun to stay out. Another plus for Sillypore (of all places) over LoS. Sad indeed. Gadfly Posted March 12, 2008 Report Share Posted March 12, 2008 I am hearing the same thing about Bangkok, and (from at least one mama-san) that showing in at least one bar in Soi Cowboy is currently a no no. I haven't been out to confirm (I have this unfortuante handicap, called a job) - anyone have more info? It looks like we are having a crackdown, but the depth and length of this one is a big question (recall the mixed and dysfunctional enforcement of the no-booze rules during the elections) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
