March 12, 2008 WASHINGTON: The commander of US forces in the Middle East, Admiral William Fallon, is stepping down amid reports he differed with President George W. Bush over Iran. US Defence Secretary Robert Gates accepted Admiral Fallon's resignation just after the admiral issued a statement saying he had asked permission to retire following a magazine article that portrayed him as opposed to Mr Bush's policies on Iran. As I understand it, they're planning on turning the place into a failed state, smashing the military & state structures and tactically dismantling civilian infrastructure to make life impossible.
