Have You Ever Been Told You Look Like Someone Famous (More Than Once)

In my case I have, on numerous occassions, been told that I look like Robbie Coltrane.

The latest incident was last week in Edinburgh.

I walk into Mathers Bar (a basic working mans pub) at the west end of Princess Street in Edinburgh and find a spot at the end of the bar next to three old codgers. Eventually two of them drink up and leave and leave the oldest one (turns out heâ??s 76) standing next to me. After a short while he speaks to me. The conversation went something like this.

Old Geezer : Excuse me, where are the toilets?

Me (pointing) : The door on the left and then down the stairs.

Old Geezer (with worried look on face) : Down the stairs?

Me : Yes, theyâ??re quite steep, but there are handrails on both sides.

Old Geezer lets go of the bar, steadies himself and then weaves his way to the door on the left. About 10 minutes later he returns.

Me : You made it back OK then.

Old Geezer (with nasty edge to his voice) : Why did you just talk to me?

Me (quite surprised) : Because you asked me where the toilets were.

Old Geezer : Did I?! I come here regularly and I know where the toilets are.

Me : Well, you asked me where they were and I told you to go to the door on the left and down the stairs.

Old Geezer (mumbles something).

About 5 minutes later.

Old Geezer : You know who you remind me of.

Me (thinking to myself â??I bet you he says Robbie Coltraneâ?Â) : No.

Old Geezer : Robbie Coltrane.

Me : Really, thatâ??s not the first time Iâ??ve been told that.

Old Geezer : Youâ??re not Robbie Coltrane are you?

Me : No, definitely not.

About another 5 minutes later.

Old Geezer (holding his right hand up to the side of his face so he canâ??t see me) : I canâ??t look at you without seeing Robbie Coltrane. Are you sure youâ??re not him?

Me : No, Iâ??m not Robbie, Iâ??m his son.

Old Geezer : Really?!

Me : No.

Old Geezer : Youâ??re not Robbie Coltranes son?

Me : No.

Old Geezer : Wait till I tell the wife.

Robbie Coltrane, one of Britain's most popular comedians who was head of debating society at school, and won prizes for his art, is now an international film star who played in two James Bond films, and appeared as Rubeus Hagrid in the 'Harry Potter' franchise.
