Julian2
I wonder what the Right will write about her when she dies? Italian food is something Australia does well, we have a huge Calabrian community and I have very fond memories of eating at the homes of school friends and later, work mates. (The mothers never spoke a word of English).
Julian2
Hangover? Jack-in-the-Box tacos. REALLY greasy. Too bad you can't get 'em over there. I'm salivating at the thought. I made some flour tortillas the other day. They came out really well too. I fried up some mashed tinned kidney beans and added ground beef with all the Mexican stuff I've been able to find in Chiang Rai, including a packet of El Paso Taco mix. Made a wicked fresh salsa and topped them off with some grated cheese. A huge success.
..
In Oz, hard to beat Pellegrini's in Melbourne! Sometimes simple really is the best. In Las Vegas, I lament the passing of The Venetian. Not to be confused with the hotel of the same name. This place was used in the movie Casino as Nicky's restaurant; and was a real wiseguy hangout in the day. Grandma's food...if your grandma was Sicilian. Awesome. Nothing there now that can take The Venetian's place. Lots of good Italian in Detroit. The gnocchi at DaEdoardo's is to die for. And you can't go wrong with anything at Mario's. Old Skool all the way! I know nothing about SFO... Cheers, SD
USVirgin
Sounds like great improvisation, Julian, only I'd suggest you leave out the beans and use corn tortillas, if possible. J-in-the-B tacos are the plebian cure for all us...well, plebian alcoholics out here. And, at two for 99 cents, we're really grateful!
USVirgin
Hey, sorry for talking about tacos. Thought I was in the Jesse Helms thread.
Hugh_Hoy
Corn tortillas if you're frying em; flour for soft tacos and burritos. (BTW, if using the flower tortillas, best to grill them lightly in the bottom of a pan or on some flat surface to get the moisture out a bit. Otherwise, they will fall apart too easily.) USVirgin
HH, If I were a moderator, I'd probably direct you to the Jesse Helms thread, which is about Mexican food. This is what's his names' Italian food thread. But, since I'm not a moderator and know little about Italian food, I say corn tortillas are the only way to go - for tacos, or course (I'm not that much into burritos). There used to be a shack between the airport and San Jose Del Cabo, right side of the fork in the road, dirt parking lot, where this lady made fantastic tacos in front of you, since there were only about four seats at the stand. The distinguishing ingredient - mayonaise. Try it sometime!
